LIving in the Destin area, I can tell you many people from Louisiana vacation here. It’s a great place to just relax and get away and not spend a fortune depending on room you get. But if you have better options, please share. I will say this, anyone who gets into the Gulf in Destin is a brave MOFO. Many bullhead sharks literally 100 yards out and too many to count rip tides. Swim in a pool, much safer.

I love the beach as long as there aren't many other people out there.

I love swimming in the ocean for about 20 minutes at a time several times a day.

I love throwing a line out and sitting in a chair with a beer.

I even love when rainshower comes in and I can swim in the rain.

ETA: the exception to the preference of no crowd are some of the beaches ive been to in Brazil, that are lined with little cabana bars, and are more of a party atmosphere with all kinds of soccer/volleyball games, and vendors selling food/drink. Those are fun.

I wouldn't choose the beach, but more power to those that do

That’s cool. 2 maybe 3 beach trips a year is good with me. The rest of my free time is spent either on the water in the marsh, swamps, offshore or in the woods. I can adapt to pretty much any environment.

The beach is a perfect place to sit and drink, put shades on, people watch, listen to music read, walk 20 feet and take a leak in the water, take a nap, meet new people.

Sounds miserable doesn’t it

Plus I don’t drink anymore

I don’t drink

The beach is one of the few places I can go for fun, and not once think about how much more enjoyable things would be if I were drinking.

Bars/clubs
Parties
Sporting events (live baseball without beer is dreadful, IMO)
Concerts
Casino/track

I can still enjoy my time at those places, but the “damn, I could go for a drink” thought will undoubtedly cross my mind at some point. I rarely desire a drink while I’m at the beach.

The point is to sit around in the sun and do nothing. Vacations don’t have to be activities galore. Who would want to drive around and spend money when you can look at hot pussy all day?

My only pet peeve is people who take their phones with them to the beach. Leave that fricker at the condo or beach house and relax. Escape this mad world for a little bit.

You aren’t making that much money. I’m guessing you might clear $25k a year?

It’s the sun and sand with a drink in my hand. It’s very calming after an extremely mentally draining job. You can look out into the sea towards the horizon and be looking at a view that hasn’t changed in Centuries. I find it very cool when at the red neck Rivera, you’re looking out and seeing the exact same thing that Hernando DeSoto and other early explorers saw. Just emerald colored water as far as the eye can see.

Now you go to Grand Isle to get shite faced and fish all weekend.

And then what happens when it becomes outdated and the furniture, appliances, shades, curtians, carpet, etc, all have to be replaced every 5-10 years. That’s a $70k hit.

Now with the Coronavirus, value just dropped

Should have sold out before March 15th 2020

Lots of people that sold out before COVID made a killing, everyone else is taking a bath.

If I was you, I would just do that and other things you like and stop worrying about WTF other people do.

I mean, why on Earth would you spend one single second giving a shite about why folks go to the beach? Folks like the salt air, the breeze, the ocean sounds, wiggle their toes in the sand, splash around in the surf, body surf, paddle board, snorkel, swim, jet ski, parasail - just off the top of my head there about a dozen things to do other than drink at the beach.

Some people have too much time on their hands (enough to bitch on a message board, for sure ... oh wait - ).
