re: I’m honestly inquiring. What’s the point of going to the beach?

Food does add up. I couldn’t eat breakfast in aspen last week with a family of 4 for less that $100. Add lunch and dinner and I spent $500 a day on food

The beach is great.
I went yesterday. Read my book. Got some sun. Got some swimmin’. Caught a 34” snook. Grateful Dead at sunset was perfect (always is). Surprisingly, the nearby hottie didn’t respond positively to my approach. No worries
Think I’ll do it again tomorrow after work, and will once again thank God for giving me such a perfect place to enjoy while the sun sets on the gulf.

We visit Hilton Head often. I love the ocean. It fascinates me. We usually rent beach front home for a week. Kids love it. Bike riding, swimming, beach combing. I set up canopy every morning and it provides shade when you want a break from sun. I run too and love long runs at beach. I want to retire there one day.

That’s 2 round trip tickets to Europe. And you paid for 3 nights in Alabama. I like you but that’s ridiculous.

I also believe the beach is a rip off, but that is just the flight tickets. You have to include the hotels/hostel and all the activities too.

I just remember we had gone to Chicago the year before and my total spend was around $1400, so I was surprised Gulf Shores cost me not much less at $1k
Eh that’s not surprising to me. Those beachfront properties are high as shite in peak season and a big city like Chicago will have a ton more cheap options.

How much are round trip driving expenses from Louisiana to Bama

It's a cheap vacation with small kids and less stress overall. If you take your own car, you don't have to worry about installing car seats in the middle of a hot parking lot. You can bring kid gear with you easier. Flying is stressful because you will have those stupid car seats and then have to deal with impatient business people who are annoyed at the mere presence of your kids and be within two inches of your neck in security. Beaches rentals tend to be more condos or houses with kitchens so that you aren't forced to have to find restaurants a few times a day to get something to eat.
One day we will get back to our nice vacations when the kids are older but right now we are in the "trip" portion of our lives and that means going to the beach or the mountains for a few days.

I enjoy going to the beach but I also have no interest in it being the only vacation I ever go on, every single summer, as some seem to do.

Agreed. Wish my wife and family agreed

It’s okay to be gay these days, there’s no shame in that.

I wouldn't choose the beach, but more power to those that do

Beaches were never my thing but I didn’t hate going until I hurt my back. Plus I don’t drink anymore. So hot, sandy, and hurting suck. Actually, most places suck now

Lol
I knew where you were going with cost.
I wish that is all I paid last week.

I’ve always wondered about the people who spend all that money to go to the beach and then literally never get in the water.
I can understand being miserable in that scenario

I agree. My wife usually gets me to pick somewhere else for us to go once a year. Last time we went hiking and white water rafting in Colorado.
I was planning on taking them to NYC this year. I lived there a long time ago but neither she nor my daughter have ever been and love to remind me about it.
Kind of depends on the Rona situation I guess.
