How much golf is too much?

My wife spent the first 25 years of our marriage pissed if I even mentioned the world "golf." I was "selfish." It left her having to take care of the kids. (I think it was more that I was having fun and she wasn't.)
Now that my kids are grown, she has relented. After living on a golf course for 16 years, I finally joined the club. I have played 6 times in 2.5 weeks. About to play for the third day in a row. My tan is good, I'm losing a few pounds, and getting away from the wife is an added bonus.

Is this a trick question?

I proved to myself during the beginning of quarantine that I could play damned near every day if it were feasible.
I had a run where I played 18 rounds in 21 days at one point and didn't get tired of it one bit. And except for a couple rounds at Pelican Point, I walked all of it.

Sounds like you have a great marriage

Well, I play everyday and on good days, I play 27 or 36. So I'd say whatever your body can tolerate.

Living on the course should help your argument. 4.5 hours is easier to handle vs if you are driving a good bit and actually taking 7 hours.

The key is to get kids addicted to golf.
I was not able to accomplish this.
Serious junior golfers practice all the time. A dad could play all the time either with the kid or while the kid practices.

My back tells when I play to much golf. Sometimes I listen.

I know guys that play 36 holes a day, 6 days a week, for 9 months out of the year. And they play'll at least 18 on winter days that cooperate.

deep down, she knows this is truth...........so therefore, she hates you, and hates you playing golf, but you've provided her that CC living for 16 years, so she tolerates it.
i've asked myself this same question recently......but my situation is different from yours. we have 5 kids together, most are older, youngest is 15. just moved to a country club community 1 and 1/2 years ago. i wasn't a member until march. some weeks i'll play 4 straight days.........some weeks just saturday and sunday. the 4 straight day weeks seems a bit much..........but she has no kids to tend to, i do all my shite first (yard work etc), and she's in nursing school so she's studying all the time. i'm sure once she's done, and just working, her free time will take away from my 4 day outings.

When I was in college and working at a golf course, I was probably 18-27 holes a day, not counting range time. That wasn't enough.
Now, with a real job and kids, once a week would be ideal. I probably don't get that done. I may average that when I play a couple times in a week randomly, but I'm probably closer to 2-3 times a month.
But assuming money and family aren't an issue, there isn't too much. Don't put golf before your wife or kids and don't waste all your money on the course where you can't afford your bills. Anything shy of that, you're good.

My 17 year old loves playing golf with me. Started him out in messing around with golf at 7 or 8.
It's our father/son time. Wife is completely fine with it.
I do miss the days when I only had to pay junior rates though. Some courses, he got to play free with me with twilight rates.

Years ago before I had kids I belonged to a club and would play 27-36 holes on my days off during the week and maybe once on the weekends if I was off. I did this until I moved to a straight day job and the kids were around 5 or 6. Then golf started to get put on the side to a point I might play once a month. Now I play maybe twice a month but my retirement plan is to golf 3 days a week and fish 2; weekends will be to do other things.

I play as much as I can.
I managed 18 Friday, 18 Saturday, and 9 yesterday.
I’ve recorded 79 rounds in 2020.
Some of those are combined 9 hole rounds. My course is closed on Mondays. I’ve played maybe 4 or 5 rounds away.
So I’m getting in 7 full rounds a month average. Course is closed this week for maintenance and I’m visiting family next week.

I've been asking myself the same question. I play every Sunday in a group. That's my money round. We play partners, individual, sandies, greenies, and skins.
I also play throughout the week. I hit the driving range Saturday morning, group golf Sunday, shitty par 9 course Monday, different course yesterday and playing a round today. Also hitting the driving range tomorrow and playing a charity scramble Friday morning.
