6 Covid cases at a client location where they are taking it seriously

A company I do business with have about 90 employees with sales & engineering offices and an outside shop/overhead crane for fabrication of topside and subsea equipment. They had a Covid scare about 7 weeks ago and the owner has been adamant about social distancing, face masks, no hand shaking, no body contact, etc... Signs everywhere and their on site HSE person was instructed to ask anyone not obeying their Covid protocol to leave the facility. Have gone over for a few meetings and we were required to have masks on and hand santize before entering any building or shop.
Yesterday the owner told me they have had 6 confirmed cases of Covid at their shop in the last 3 weeks and their QC manager was one of the people that tested positive. Unfortunately the QC manager visited his parents and his 63 year old mother caught it from him before he knew he had it and she was hospitalized last week and passed away on Monday..
At this particular facility strict adherence to social distancing, requirements for face masks, and other precautions were not effective at all.

People are going to get it. It’s not going anywhere.
I’m getting tested as we speak with my fiancé because we both think we have it but my symptoms aren’t anything.
I know of 4 people that have it and they aren’t even remotely experiencing bad symptoms. For us younger folks it’s good that we all get it honestly.

Just because you do act a certain way at work doesn't mean you act that way when you are off work. All of those people could have caught corona away from work and non of the case could be connected.
The reality is corona is going to go through the population and there isn't a lot that can be done about it.

Getting the quick test? I got tested yesterday after being told I had been exposed to someone Friday. I tested negative. I had what could have been considered mild symptoms.

If your kids aren’t going to school, work should be the biggest spreader of the disease after your family in the home. Think about how many people you are in close contact with (closer than 6 feet for over 15 minutes). Where does that happen? Work, school and home. That’s the vast majority of it for most people.

Sorry to hear that, especially considering they were careful. You have to think that some of the employees might have been out socializing and contracted Covid outside of work.

I think this is incorrect given the number of people who work there together. How many more would have gotten it had those measures not been in place?

Beware of false negative tests. My wife and I tested the same day after I was exposed to Covid at work 7 days prior. I tested positive, she tested negative. We think it was because she was a few days behind me in the incubation period, because we both had it.
So timing can play a role.

Everyone will get it eventually.

People do other shite besides work and sit at home. How many of them are in the hospital or dead?

My county of 125,000 has 42 active cases with 34 of them in a hospice/nursing home. They believe the 1st case was brought in by the company that was brought in to test patients by state mandate.

Evidence from around the world points to school for kids under 18 years old as a non-factor in virus transmission.

So, people follow protocols at work, then do not follow them on the weekend or maybe do not follow them as strictly as they do at work...
Your scenario neither proves of disproves that the measures in place work or do not work...
Full disclosure, I am not in favor of many of the protocols and believe this whole thing has been blown way the frick out of proportion and we killed the best economy in my lifetime for something we should have allowed to run its course...

You’re saying that the six cases at work were all results of community spread outside the workplace? Doubtful.

That’s a fine point when talking about Coronavirus (which we are). But even when talking about viruses in general, the same remains true.

Sure it was contracted outside of work by someone. They believe it spread inside somehow because the 6 confirmed cases happened so close together.
The one thing that has their attention is their HSEmanager believes he did everything correctly because he has older parents. He thinks he was very safe in/out of work. All staff is being tested now. Will see what % of the employees test positive.
