The wife got herself roped into a "secluded cabin" near gatlinburg which is actually a nice cabin, in a complex with about 100 other ones and nice views of weeds and some other houses. I let her pick it, didnt check behind her, and here we are. Being stupid is expensive. Neither one of us is happy with it.

We are (eta: not) bailing out tomorrow whether I can get my money back or not. Gatlinburg is a hell hole right now full of white trash, I guess since it's the 4th.

Right now my plan is to head for tallulah falls since that's only 80 miles away. Any better ideas?

Eta: well, per the wife we are not bailing and are staying here. Any ideas of how to enjoy this are welcomed. It's raining its arse off and the place is infested with fat white trash. Right now my plan is to drink lots of whiskey.

We heard the same from some family members and finally went out there about 6 years. Someone in the family asked me what my favorite part of Gatlinburg was? I said the bypass and I was not joking.

One long string of tshirt shops and crappy souvenirs. So many other places in this country to go..... skip this tourist trap.

How long are you wanting to spend somewhere? Chattanooga is good for a couple of days. North Georgia (Clayton, Helen, etc..) is a pretty area. Highlands, NC? You could always look for an AirBnB on one of the TVA lakes on the TN river and rent a boat. Watts Bar, Ft. Loudon, Chickamauga.

We both took off till sunday.

I've been to helen before, seems I remember that being a tourist trap hellhole also.

TVA lake sounds more my speed, we'll look into that

Call Blackberry Farm or BlackBerry Mountain. Splurge. Enjoy.

Go enjoy the freakin national park, there is plenty of trails there that are amazing and don’t get as much tourist traffic.

We were going to try that to escape the trash, but it looks like it is going to monsoon most of the week.

Cashiers, Highland, Bryson City or Brevard are options in NC if you can find a room. They’re in approximate same direction as Tallulah Falls.

What can of activities are you looking to do?

Drive to Asheville. Look into the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Have you tried Smokey Mountain National Park? It’s pretty much the reason that town exists. Get off your arse, stop complaining and go hiking.

Drive over to Cherokee and gamble at the casino?

If you like scenic drives google Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway; might be something to do to get away from the crowds.

Go to Maggie Valley and check out the Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum.

In Gatlinburg check out the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community; a collection of galleries and shops just outside G'berg. I especially like Tim Weberding Woodworking. Your wife will probably like that area if you don't.

Go fishing. Hwy 321 going east out of town. Turn to the South and you'll hit some good creeks with trails that allow for walking.

You can hire a guide at smoky mountain angler and let them show you a few good spots and then go from there on your own. Half day is probably $100-$150.

Well, in that case there is lots of stuff to do in gatlinburg. Get a custom airbrushed t-shirt to commemorate the occasion. Take some old-tyme photos (the ones with you wearing chaps holding a gun with her dressed up like a saloon girl holding a whiskey bottle). Go to the arcade. Eat some taffy. Buy a pocket knife. Buy some “moonshine”.

Haven’t been in 20 years or so but just stayed in the park whole time, and did the alpine kart slide thingy at the ski park or maybe that was in Colorado once, I can’t remember.... but if you can’t fun being on vacation anywhere and not being at work then you Must suck. I can have fun drinking and not working in a place like meridian, MS. But you’re in the GD mountains and bitching

Thanks. Hopefully the weather allows us to go hike at some point.

Dabeerz, if it was just me I'd go stay in a tent in the rain all week and never see this souped up trailer park. I have a wife to entertain.
