The U.S. Open is returning to NBC starting this year at Winged Foot after Fox Sports has asked to end its 12-year contract with the USGA, multiple people told The Associated Press on Sunday night.

Any ideas why FOX wants out? I was beginning to enjoy their coverage. At least it’s going to NBC.

I wonder if they’ll bring Johnny miller out for it.

He was an a-hole but I kinda miss him

Sucks, I thought Fox did a really good job. Not sure why they would want out, they were really bullish on having golf less than a year ago

Fox only had the US Open and Amateur so it was probably hard to cultivate a brand and production consistency/quality with such a limited portfolio...

Holly Sonders going full mental probably didn’t help matters.

They had all USGA events. Women's US Open, 4 ball, US Women's Am, Senior Open, etc

Yeah this really sucks. Shane Bacon brings so much joy and fun to a broadcast, his podcasts are great too. I think FOX did a great job with their USGA portfolio it just sucks that external forces nuked it. Their broadcast of the US Women's Open at Charleston Country Club last year was fantastic. They did an excellent job showcasing the course and the golf. Not to mention their dedication to the US AM, the Women's Senior Open, etc. Golf has such rich depth and so many stories to be told for men, women, professional, and amateur it sucks that NBC probably wont follow what FOX tried.

Their coverage was awful, especially the video quality.

Surprised they wanted out, but since that’s the only golf they have, maybe the money didn’t make sense.

Fox was the absolute WORST for golf coverage. Agonizing watching them try to learn how to cover golf

They were bad year one, but Chambers Bay didn't help. They've gotten progressively better and really thrust shot tracer into the forefront. I look forward to their US Open coverage because it breaks up the monotony of the NBC/CBS coverage week to week.

My armchair expert reason is that they bid on the US Open to try and get their foot in the door for more golf with the new contract negotiations. With NBC and CBS getting those rights and the economy tank with covid, no reason to stick it out.

I’m glad it’s returning to NBC. Big plus for me is I won’t have to listen to Joe Buck.

The video was good. And bring Johnny Miller back. Go hire Gary McCord too.

You just haven’t watched in the past 2 years and that’s fine. But to say their coverage was awful as of late (when comparison is CBS and NBC) is just a bad take.

heard this AM that FOX couldn't accommodate the USGA and the NFL with the rescheduling due to Covid. FOX chose the NFL.

They're gonna be pissed if the NFL folds or cant play this fall.

Maybe that is a good sign that they are confident in the NFL playing this fall.

Fox had to dive in to the deep water with golf coverage at Chambers’ Bay but they innovated in the next few years more than any other golf broadcast. Joe Buck was never the right play-by-play guy for it, but I enjoyed how the telecast grew in covering golf.

Man, what happened to her. She really went off the deep end.

When she first hit the Golf Channel, she was beautiful and I thought this is the perfect woman, great looking, good personality and love the game.

Not she looks like a pornstar and hooked with with that runt gambler Vegas Dave. She seems to be full on tramp nowadays on those youtube videos.

I thought he was fine, but with Bacon, Faxon, Doak and others it was more about what they were doing than if Buck wasn't perfect.
