As a person born and raised in New Orleans, nothing beats Popeye's. Whether just eating it at home or on a parade route, the chicken cannot be beat. Well tonight Popeye's has been thoroughly dethroned by Fricken Chicken:

The Chicken: The pieces were HUGE. At least double the size of popeyes. My gf got the mild and i got spicy. The spicy was delicious with a subtle spice that slowly burned until it permeated throughout your mouth. The chicken was perfectly cooked and very moist. Perfect.

The Sides: They were out of potatoe salad so i got two sides of red beans. The red beans were great. It was like somone was cooking real red beans, not the overly processed (but still yummy) ones that popeye's sells. I could eat these red beans everday.

The Biscuits: No contest, Fricken Chicken does it again. The biscuits had a real home made taste and texture. They weren't chalky or dry (like i sometimes find popeye's to be). The biscuits completed the meal perfectly.

I waited 25 minutes to get my food because, as so many people have said, they never have food ready. This time i had to wait on the mild chicken. It is kind of rediculous when you think about it. it is 630, the time people are eating, and they aren't ready with their food. But that is what happens when you hire college kids who just don't care. This is what holds this restaurant back from taking over all the chicken chains. But the wait was worth it and i will be going back. hopefully i will time it better.

In all i got 12 pieces, 2 lg red beans, and 4 biscuits for $20.00. A better value than Popeye's

Go if you haven't and say bye-bye to Popeye's!

Let me get this straight.

You're comparing a single-location restaurant that the owner himself worked at, to a fast food chain? You might as well start a thread on how Ninfa's is better than Taco Bell, seriously.

seriously, screw you. do you ever have anything intelligent to say or do you just type asanine statements to make yourself feel justified? i am comparing two places that make fried chicken. two "fast food" locations. FC is fast food also you tard. it is a drive-thru with some benches in the front. that is called fast food. try to think before you post queer.

I got the chicken tenders last week and they were awesome. However, the fries were just mediocre. But the tenders were huge and delicious. I will go back!

The owner posted on here that you should call in advance and they will get some ready.

I agree! I hope the owner reads this post and decides to try a different supplier/brand of fries...

Hopefully when niknufsik gets back from Iraq he will open a second location in a better area.

I havent tried it but is this comparing BR Popeyes to Frickin Chicken or NO Popeyes? BR's popeyes are horrible and may even purchase smaller chickens to save money. Second report of long waits though. He said he is trying to get his new night shift worked out so that might be part of it.

Why don't we just say it's the best fried chicken you will get from a fast food or takeout place in Baton Rouge.

I would have to say this is better than Austin Leslies as well as Willie Mays and THAT is a bold statement.

I also tried Fricken Chicken for the first time last night.

My Review:

Me and the girlfriend went around 8:15. There was one person at the carryout counter and one at the drive through. We decided to go to the carryout counter cause we didn't know what we wanted, since we haven't been there before.

We decided to get an 8 piece with 6 extra biscuits.

Well I try to order and the guy looks around and starts counting stuff, and tells me that they don't have anymore spicy chicken or enough biscuits and that it would be 30 minutes. I said screw waiting 1/2 an hour and just got all mild and like 4 biscuits and a side of fries.

When we got back home, everything was kinda cold. It had a good taste to it, but like I said it was kinda cold. I did get to sample their fricken sauce which was very good and their BBQ sauce which had way to much black pepper.

I think I will try it again, and next time I will either call ahead or wait for the stuff to be cooked.

Can someone explain to me how a chicken and biscuit place like this doesn't have chicken and biscuits cooked when you go there? This is like going to Taco Bell and them saying its gonna take 30 mins to get you that Taco Supreme you ordered.

Also since the tenders aren't on the menu I didn't know they had them. Are they the same price as the regular pieces of chicken?

I'll have to give it a shot next time I'm in Baton Rouge because absolutely nothing has ever been close to being as good as Popeye's spicy chicken.

careful saying that around here. this makes you an a-hole or an idiot according to many on this board. expecting them to have food ready at a fast food place around dinner time! what an unreasonable request!

eta: tenders are on the drive menu at least. never been to the counter.

lsujro, like you said, got forbid I go to a place with a drive through and order food and expect it in a reasonable amount of time. What if I went through the drive through and had wanted to wait. I guess I would have to just sit there.......its not like the person behind could have ordered........I have a good inclination that they would have wanted chicken too.

If he would have told me 5-10 mins I would have waited, cause it took me that long to get my food anyway, but 30 mins is ridiculous.

That is a bad comparison. Taco Bell is crap.

I have not been to the walk up menu, but they are on the drive thru menu. Did it say "5 piece" or "3 piece"? If so, that might have been it.

What I don't understand is how people consider popeye's "good" fried chicken ! Maybe 25 years ago it was good.I always find it greasy and undercooked.

How many times has anyone been to Jack in the Box and waited quite awhile? Pull around please.

Frikkin Chicken isn't Popeyes or McDonalds or Taco Bell. It is a locally owned fried chicken restaurant that happens to have a drive through. I would prefer to wait for freshly cooked, hot chicken than save a few minutes and get something that has been sitting under a heat lamp.

To much of society is in the fast lane. I find it's worth my time to smell the roses or the Frikkin Chicken. I'm not a sprinter and I will allow time for the finer things in life and yes, Frikkin Chicken is one of the finer things in life. So is a Parkway Bakery po boy and that takes 15 minutes or so. Slow down people and quit bitching. If you don't like to wait go eat at Taco Bell. Nobody will care. Anticipation is half of the meal.
