Posters with kids. How long after the birth did you sit out of the gym?

I have an ok set up in the garage too but I’m wanting to spend all my time with the newborn and give my wife a break.
How long after the birth did go you back? Days, weeks?
And it’s our first so I have NO idea what time of the day or night to even try.

Just go when the baby is asleep. They sleep so much in the beginning, it should be easy to find the time, if you have the energy.
That’s a big IF though

Once we got back from the hospital I was back at it
Having my second motivated me to start my garage gym
I have three kids and in the best overall shape I’ve been in ten years

Within a week or so for me but I was told I am no longer “allowed” to do evening workouts after work so now I get up in the morning before the baby is awake and get it in so I can come home to help.

First and foremost, congratulations on the baby! No greater feeling than being a father.
You will adapt to the schedule of the family, and it will be difficult at first, but it is possible and you should carve out at least 30-45 min to get after it. You should also encourage your wife to get out of the house, whether by herself or as a family going on walks, etc.
If you can get 30 min of good lifting and two or three 15 min walks in with your family, you will be well on your way to not only maintaining your fitness level but probably improving.
Good luck and most of all, enjoy this time with your growing family!

My wife had a C-Section for both our little ones. I stayed out until she could get back on her feet, then I started working out in the mornings. Once our little guy started sleeping through the night, I was back regularly.

I would go on my lunch break so I really never missed gym time.

Some great replies. Thanks guys.
Getting to the ‘sleeping through the night’ part seems to be a good goal. My wife definitely wants to start back too.

I took about 2 weeks. I took 2 weeks for work, too. When I was only getting 2 hour chunks of sleep at a time, I just took a walk around the neighborhood as I felt like it. After 2 weeks, I was going back to work so my wife was a champ let me get more sleep, so I was getting 4 hour chunks and felt well enough to do some working out. I went very light and easy, just wanted to get some movement in and not risk injury when deprived of sleep.

We have our first on the way, probably within the next month. I'm crossing my fingers I can still get after it for 1.5 hours a day but I know that ship will probably sail.

I wish I had a garage gym when we had our second and third basically back to back. Having to work 7 days a week was hard to have the energy to help with the kids and drive to the gym. Walking to the garage is so beneficial.

Good luck, but will probably have to mix it up a little more and integrate quicker workouts into your plan. For the short term figure out the essential stuff and cut back on accessory exercises, filler work, and maybe shorten rest breaks between sets. Can still lift heavy and get gains, but have to be more strategic.

I went for a jog at a park across from the hospital the day of. No lie.
Baby was born 5am and was having labs that afternoon and wife was exhausted and took a nap.

1 week until we had a decent schedule but still had to get up early in the morning if I wanted to train

I have 6 kids and the oldest is 7 years old. There’s a reason I go to the gym at 4:30am
