My husband was back at it the day after we got home.
I breastfed, so there wasn’t much he could do to help without needing me because they mainly eat and sleep those first few weeks. I would even say it is the easiest part. So, if your wife is ok with it, just keep your gym routine as much as possible and then cook for her every night lol. That is the biggest help in the beginning.

IMO it gets roughest and I needed the most help around 3-6months.

After we had our first I used the lack of a sleep routine as an opportunity to start training early in the AM. At that point 0400 felt the same as 1600 and I just kept that routine to this day. Also, highly recommend a garage gym. Having a garage gym gave me an additional 30 minutes every day due to lack of commuting to the gym. It also allowed me to be home to help in case anything happened in the middle of my training.

That's what i'm talking about! That's why i invested in a garage gym. That gives me hope.

I built mine 1 year before she was born knowing it would come in handy when we would have kids. Glad I did. Quarantine made it even more worth it

I'm having a baby girl in a month. I typically work out on my lunch break, so I plan to continue doing that. On the weekends I always wake up before my wife, so on those days, I'll wake up first, and take care of the baby, then once the wife wakes up, I'll take 90 minutes or so to go hit the gym.

I caution you and anyone who manages to continue lifting during the first few months, especially the first few weeks... Dial back the intensity and the weights. You'll not be sleeping much so injuries will come easily if you push too hard. You won't recover worth a shite.

If you do it right you'll feel energized after a workout despite little sleep. If you push you will feel like shite.

Thanks for the advice. I will surely keep that it mind. I'm still trying to get my strength back fully from the Covid time off, which I'm close. We are five and a half weeks out from the birth, and I think I'm about two weeks away from hitting my previous bench numbers. My squats and deadlifts are pretty much there already, so if I can get to where I was pre covid, before the baby comes, then I should be able to easily tone it down a notch while I'm not getting as much rest and still get a good workout in.

It will be easy to get out until they become mobile. Start building your home gym now.

Or just get a peloton like we did and you don’t have to leave

Literally as long as it took to get home from the hospital and one night. The baby kept us up all that night so I just got out of bed at 5:30am and went to the gym. My class was rather shocked I was there. What the hell was I gonna do at home? I ain’t got a functional tit.

Bump. Just made it through our first night at home. Missed Monday and Tuesday because we were at the hospital. Need to knock out 4 training days between now and Sunday. Exhausted but I’ll do it. Gotta stay on the plan.

I’ll let y’all know how this goes.

Overhead Press
Landmine Squat
Kneeling Landmine Shoulder Press
3 Rounds as many reps as possible Chin-ups
Lateral Raises
Banded Lateral Walk

Followed by a 20 min bodyweight HIIT

fricking exhausted Probably 12 total hours of sleep in the past 4 days.

I could lessen the load and make it easier. Probably better for me. But frick it.

I’m a believer in inertia. Even when I’m exhausted, just start moving and the body will wake up.

Just be careful, not sleeping enough will significantly increase risk of injury. You can't really recover.

Congrats on the kiddo. Being a parent is a challenge but it's extremely rewarding.

Well done GTG. and congrats!

I was able to get back to four sessions a week by about week 3 or 4. Two in the garage after work and Saturday and sunday at the gym.

No doubt - I’m definitely aware. I have this week and next week of a grinder and then my plan backs off for a week. I really just need to get through the next 8 days.

Thanks! I like hearing that - I’m hoping for the same pretty much. 4 days a week right away.

I missed Monday and Tuesday this week. (Usually lift M/Tu/Th/Fri) So going to try to go Wednesday - Saturday straight and either jog Sunday or just take off.
