I’ve never understood the Internet/TD hate for Manda. Everyone I know loves it and it’s a Baton Rouge staple. Why is everyone so quick to hate on a local family company? I see 5X more Manda in the grocery store than I do the others, so they gotta be doing something right. If you like another brand, cool, but why you gotta trash the other? I have the privilege of knowing pretty much all of the Louisiana processors. They are good people. Buy them all.

I’ll close by saying this: I’ve never seen DD or Savoies or Richards sponsoring events and charities in Baton Rouge. But Manda is always there. Think about that.

It has its place, I like it for poboys and just grilled and sliced for an appetizer with mustard or bar b q sauce, it is cheap and consistent

All time favorite is green onion mixed from Market Basket in Lake Charles, but go to at the grocery store is Veron's or French Settlement.

If it's on sale I will get it..but that is the way I buy most sausage..If I use it in a gumbo I put it in the oven first to get most of grease out..
I got some sausage from Sam's.. It's called Polk's Cajun..Whew talk about greasy.. I made some seasoned grits and added the oven cook Polks to the grits and it turned the grits a light brown color from the grease that was still in the sausage.. The sausage is not too bad..CHEAP PRICE..

I just picked up Foreman's smoked green onion sausage for some white beans. Not bad. Where would this rank IYO?

Manda is just another mass marketed sausage. In the same group as Double D, Country Pleasin, Savoies, etc.

They are what they are. Among the better ones IMO are New Orleans Smoked Saugsage (Chisesi Bros Hogs for the Cause one) and Tony Chachere's Smoked Sausage.

LA has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to specialty meats and smoked sausage.

My favorites: Rabideauxs and Kartchners (be patient - the Scott locations is in-work). And IMO, these are on another level than the River Parishes offerings.

I like it butterflied open, browned to a crisp, and put on a breakfast sandwich. I refuse to use it for gumbo or jambalaya due to the mushy texture.

All I know is every time I see or hear Manda I think of Jim Hawthorn. “Manda fine meats” in his silky smooth voice.

I bought a box at the start of all this bullshite, just in case I was quarantined at home. Used it in some red beans and it was pretty bad. I threw out the two other packs. I'm all for supporting local businesses, but that was a step too far.
