The same guy that suicide-ed Epstein will find his way to Minnesota, get arrested, and become the cellmate of a certain ex-cop. And that will be all she wrote.

Believe you are correct. From my 5 minute research, the prosecutors added second degree manslaughter as a lesser charge. Ultimately, it will be up to the judge whether to include the lesser charge as an option to the jury. With damning evidence of manslaughter, I would think a judge would certainly allow a lesser to be included

Color of authority along with a legal duty makes those apples and oranges.

So they have a different set of laws applied to them? I honestly don't know. Do they have a legal duty to react? I get that you can fire someone over something like that.

The distinction between murder and manslaughter is intent. To convict him of 2nd degree murder, the jury will have to conclude that Chauvin intended to kill Floyd, but that it was not pre-meditated. That is going to be tough to prove.

Manslaughter was a slam dunk that he serves several years in prison. Now I think it is 50/50 he is aquitted

Honestly, why do people pontificate on law when they don't know the first thing about what they are talking about?

Second-degree murder in MN does not require intent in fact that is what distinguishes it from 1st degree. It does require the commission of a felony. 609.19

MN allows lesser included offense verdicts so overcharging is less of an issue.

There are two subsections of second degree murder in MN. The first requires intent.

The second is felony murder which does not require intent.

There’s a lesser included statute I believe
when the jury is given their instructions, they'll probably be given 2 or 3 other options.

There is 0.000% chance he walks away scot free.

EDIT- The fact that Keith Ellison is running the show makes me wonder if he could sabotage it just to make it look like there isn't justice for black people. THAT would not even surprise me anymore.

The righteous part of me wants him to pay for his crime. The part of me that hates the a-hole bullies destroying cities and ruining people’s lives wants him to walk free.

ETA Skimmed your post and thought you were referring to the trial

Overcharging is the perfect dog and pony show.

It appeases the public in the aftermath of the incident. It guarantees the cop (who's on the same team as the prosecutor) will walk. And the prosecutor can blame the deplorables on the jury for the end result.

I was all for the murder charges. Now watching everyone act like thugs and making it legal to riot and loot. I’m hoping he gets acquitted
