re: Anyone buying new car during these times?

I thought about upgrading my current car, but it has several upgrades on it that a dealer won’t apply to current value ( I totally understand).
I would really like to get the higher even faster model (pre-owned), but my car has been paid off and it has low miles so I’ll probably won’t do anything.
I mean why get rid of a great car with no note to spend money on a little better car and have a note?

Bought a brand new F150 STX 4x4 with the 0% for 84.
It promptly hailed a week and two days after driving her off the lot and my truck was sitting outside.
I was driving an extended cab 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500. With the wife finding out she’s pregnant with our first and the truck’s interior beginning to look like a 20 year old truck, it was time.

I believe 0% and up to 84 months is only for new cars. Respectfully, DO NOT buy your kid a new car. Think back to your first car . . . . did you scratch it? ding or dent it? maybe have an accident during the process of becoming an experienced driver? make a mistake in maintaining it? delay getting it serviced?
Based on the patterns and mistakes of many teen drivers, save yourself a wad of cash and look for a dependable used car. You, and your wallet, will be happier for it.

I stopped buying new a while back. Too much depreciation as soon as you drive it off the lot.
I've gone certified pre-owned the last 15 years.

Find a sub $5k high mileage used car from a private seller. One teenage child totaled his first car the other kid got in 3 fender benders in 2 years.

Negative.
Have quite a few purchases I'd like to make. Lack of confidence in job situation long term due to supply chain issues for business I work for.
No spending any cash until clearer skies.

Got a kid starting college this fall and we will need to get a vehicle. We had started pricing smaller SUVs a few months back and I think we can get what we want for around $14K.
Got nervous about the job situation so we've put it on hold.
Hopefully used prices come down some more and we can purchase in July.
The damn insurance is what's going to beat my arse.

I bought a 4Runner right before everything went crazy. IDK if that means good timing or bad.
edit: it was a used car so to answer your question no.

I would lease a car for a high schooler. The payments are low, if it’s wrecked, t doesn’t affect residual. She can save up to buy her own car when the lease is up or take over payments on the lease. You have a warranty for the duration of the lease as well as roadside assistance free of charge.

Get your kid an early to mid 2000s manual Jeep Wrangler. They are slow as Christmas so speeding won't be much of an issue.

With Hertz going bankruptcy, read they are expecting the used car market to take a big hit, over the next 8-10 weeks.

Just bought my daughter a Malibu last week. I like it but the mpg isn't as good as I expected it to be.

If you want cheap, but a 1.5 gen nissan xterra.
Hall all of the hoses changed, belts, timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets and knock sensor under the intake.
It'll be under 4500 bucks and is good for 300k miles.
