Some 108 million people in China’s northeast region are being plunged back under lockdown conditions as a new and growing cluster of infections causes a backslide in the nation’s return to normal.

cities in Jilin province have cut off trains and buses, shut schools and quarantined tens of thousands of people. The strict measures have dismayed many residents who had thought the worst of the nation’s epidemic was over.

fear of a second wave after it curbed the virus’s spread at great economic and social cost. It’s also a sign of how fragile the re-opening process will be in China and elsewhere as even the slightest hint of a resurgence of infections could prompt a return to strict lockdown.

The government of Shulan, a city in Jilin, said on WeChat Monday it would put in place its strictest measures yet to contain the virus. Residential compounds with confirmed or suspected cases will be closed off, with only one person from each family allowed to leave to purchase essentials for two hours every two days.

the politicians who are freaking out about this need to only be able to comment on a "Second wave" if they can articulate a big picture plan for their state/locality

Just 30 years ago Americans who clamored for this type of America were ostracized by their own neighbors and pretty much everyone else. Now they will be celebrated.
ETA: Also to be fair I'm pretty sure in China 100 million people is like, just a few blocks of the Beijing suburbs.

Is this even a second wave for this location/province?

Gavin Newsom just shut down California until 2022.

Said internally. “Wow, look how awesome I am”

Imagine being so stupid as to believe China is having a "second wave" as if they ever truly curbed a first wave.

the cluster of 34 infections
Like the last big news from over there with this same BS we learn they have enough egg on the face to close down over 34 infections. If you can believe anything coming out of there. You can bet CNN with run with this and leave off the numbers. And leave it to Bloomberg for yet another misleading headline.

Exactly. This is more than likely the first wave for Jilin province, since they welded the citizenry of Hubei province in their homes and all.

Pretty sure there's a subreddit for that.

True that...maybe it's a second wave of a lockdown and not the actual second wave of the virus

Here’s one thing most people don’t understand about Asian cities in general: they are fricking huge. People think New York is huge, but it is #41 in most populated cities in the world. LA is #101 and Chicago is #171. Americans refuse to be packed like sardines in the way they are, which of course makes the virus spread that much more quickly in Asian cities.

It won't matter to our politicians. They'll shut us down until 2021.

I'm sure that's accurate too. China has shown they're so trustworthy on sharing data on pandemics.

As the United States cools down. 9 out of the top 10 states hit were from up north or dry climate like California and Louisiana because of Mardi Gras. It hit the south when temps were very warm in March after a mild winter. Large reason why ventilations and hospitalizations are down. Will we be so lucky this fall?

DOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
This shite was here in the fall/winter already, and was hitting when flu peaked in this country.
Come off of the deadly second wave shite already. No reason to fear it as much as you are, at this point.
Ventilations could be down because they figured out it wasn't the best treatment.

The city of Tokyo has more people than Texas and Louisiana combined.
