It’s been relaxed in the sense that telemedicine visits are allowed without release forms and appropriate protection of PHI during those visits. It hasn’t been relaxed to an extent where you can publish a list of names of patients with a particular diagnosis

Forgive my ignorance if this is happening in most cities. But if not, why would a major globally used app like Resy or OpenTable rewrite parts of their software for New Orleans?

This isn’t just going to be for New Orleans. It’s not happening in most cities bc most cities aren’t open yet, especially the big food city players. NYC, Chicago, Boston, LA, San Fran. IDK what those cities’ plans are but NYC will most certainly have tracing. This has just begun - it appears places like New Orleans and Washington state are going to be the genesis of contact tracing procedures in restaurants. Not to get political but these left leaning restauranteurs are all over this
Resy and opentable have already released statements saying they’re going to adapt with the new times. They’re monitoring this closely it sounds like. They’ll have no choice if these practices are adopted and enforced by government agencies

Restaurants ask for phone numbers all the time for reservations or even to get on a wait list, and no one bitches. The damn pizza place in Florida that I order from once a year calls me by name when they answer.
But people are bent out of shape because they might want to call and warn them a COVID carrier was sitting beside them at dinner?
The same people would probably throw a fit and threaten to sue if the restaurant didn't warn them. "All they had to do was get my number, and now Granny is dead and I'm on dialysis. I'm calling Gordon."

Sometimes people make reservations and don't bother to show up too. Or it could be a person from out-of-town that's already left for home. It's also possible that someone could eat at the restaurant, fill up their car on the way home and get exposed to the virus. Now everyone at the restaurant has to pay for a test?

Lot of stupidity in this thread. Don't you guys understand what is going on?
If you want to reopen, which is a good thing for the economy, we have to be able to test people and track the people who they have been in contact with who have the virus. If you're not willing to submit to that, then you have to stay home because you are a threat to everybody.
If someone tests positive in the restaurant, then state health workers will check the lists so that they can contact everybody who was there to test them, too. How else would you be able to slow the spread of this pandemic?

I just seriously doubt the ability of NOLA city employees being able to gather all of the data from everywhere that person has been in the last 14 days (it is also key that the person can remember everywhere they have been and on which day) and timely contact all those who were exposed. And do this not only for 1 positive test but for every single one

Well, nothing will happen with asymptomatic people.
Someone I know was asymptomatic while her sibling and mother were both in the hospital.
Do you really think everyone who is positive after eating in a restaurant is going to report to the restaurant?
This may work if restaurant workers report if the test positive.
