PSA for AP test takers this week

I realize this may not be a topic that resonates with everyone here, but wanted to pass along a very hard lesson learned so that others may not suffer the same fate.
My high school student took the AP Calculus test today. The process is that they have to show their work and write answers on a piece of paper, take a photo, and then upload it in the allotted time.
The process in the first part, which was 30 minutes, went fine. The second part, which was 20 minutes, the photo was taken in time, and the upload process was started but the upload was taking much longer and time ran out, which triggered a message stating that the test has to be retaken.
So inform your test takers that the upload process could bog down at the end of the test, presumably from traffic clogging the college board server. This will result in the test takers having to cut their time to answer down and start the upload process a lot sooner.
And in case you were wondering, we have Fiber at 1000mbps and Google NEST, so upload/internet speeds and file size on our end were not the issue. The photo has a time stamp that clearly shows it was taken before the end of the test and we are trying to figure out if we can still submit that somehow since the issues appears to be their server.

If the AP classes are too hard you can always try LP classes before resorting to EBR schools.

For the OP (and other AP parents) if you follow College Board on Facebook they’ve been updating with info.
Also, if you’re uploading an HEIC file on an iPad or iPhone there’s been a delay.
quote:
Note: if the student has a cloud-based file storage system they can access on both devices (e.g., Google Drive or iCloud), the student can access the photos from their laptop/desktop, but then must save the photo to their laptop/desktop as a .jpg, .jpeg, or .png file. The HEIC photo file format common to Apple devices can’t be submitted as is; see the relevant FAQ about HEIC files below.
The student then clicks “Attach Response,” and then selects “Attach Photos.”
After the student ensures that all photos for that question have been attached, the student must click “Submit” before the time expires.

My oldest is taking two this week. But you have to presume they will give these kids the benefit of the doubt and allow all the tests to be turned in.
These are NOT the kids cheating on tests and faking assignments at most schools.

It’s an absolute mess today. Plenty kids in our area with issues. And file was a jpeg.
Now hearing some geography test isn’t even letting people in to take the exam.
400k+ took the calc test today.
I foresee a bunch of commercials advertising a class action lawsuit over this in the not too distant future.

Or to have avoided all that BS in the first place like I did way back when by dual enrolling.

Way off. All of the kids in my AP classes in high school would DO ANYTHING to get ahead.

Yeah same here. I had like 5 APs in high school and I cheated my arse off in school. They were good to take though because they help finish college early, this saving a lot of money.

I love hearing about parents and their kids who value education. Great job parenting and best of luck to your high schooler!

Working at one of the top schools in our state, our highest behavior "incidents" are cheating and academic dishonesty. The pressure they're under to keep a high GPA, especially in a group of kids where they're no longer the top kid but among a collection of top kids from other middle schools, definitely fosters cheating.

Yes. My daughter lucked up and the upload finished seconds before the clock expired. She had to convert the files before uploading. Almost a disaster.
