I shite you not I had someone call me last week to ask if one of my employees was African American before they wrote them in for an award based off a story they had been given about the employee. The employee was Caucasian. Do you think they wrote them in for the award?
Claimed they needed Diversity in the award. Diversity is the Democrat word for racism against whites.
You should have asked them, "are you asking me to assume my employees race and gender? My employee identifies as a turnip. How's that for diversity?"

For college admissions it was a different goal. The goal is not to rectify past wrongs. It is to achieve campus 'diversity'. White students cannot learn unless there are black students around them. Diversity enriches everyone. And the only way to achieve it is to admit unqualified minorities.
Really? Do tell?

The reverse discrimination starts before employment. Start with college admissions. A black female is the most priviledged demographic in our society today. And, if you hire one, you better plan on employing them until they want to leave.

The original intent of Affirmative Action, as explained to me by the office chief or manager of the main EEO office on an Army Installation was this -- when two candidates are equally qualified for a position but one of them is a minority, promote the minority until "Diversity" is achieved, then end the AA program.
Problem is that this original paradigm was overcome by the current model of promoting any minority, regardless of qualifications.

Much of my thinking has been informed on this issue by Dr. Sowell's writing. Certainly, I think folks should be giving thought as to how to open doors for folks, but as the entire concept of Affirmative Action has matured it just continues to reinforce the notion that blacks are inferior, fragile, inadequate and need special assistance.
My only issue with Sowell is that he comes off as being dismissive of history of black suppression in education prior and during the Civil Rights era. Unlike modern day progressives, MLK and other black leaders were actually fighting against REAL Racism and discriminatory practices.
I do agree with him in that the methods that tool post CRA 1964 were ineffective in many areas, particularly domestic life. We should have held on to strong communities while taking advantage of the much deserved liberties. But I'm going to save that dance for another time.

You need to read some of his books like I have.
Sowell dismisses aff action due to mismatching. Black students who could do well at U. Texas get scholarships to Harvard and fail. Since UT can't get enough black students they admit those who would do well at La. Tech. They fail.
On pre-MLK life Sowell lived it. You didn't. He writes that black people actually got married before having children. Black kids didn't commit crime or do drugs. His high school classmates became successful. That school now graduates people who go to prison.

I believe that of all demographics, black women primarily have the highest advantage by a considerable margin.
White women are the top of the chain when it comes to privilege. They can do anything, even bang HS kids and get away with it.

I don't think he takes the position they were ineffective. They were counterproductive (and AA was part of that, particularly as it dragged on). That's my position, as well.

The end result of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s was the destruction of the black family, the black community, the "old school" black values and tradition in exchange for the current state of affairs.

quote:wow. you must be a highly educated person of means.
I see by the downvotes that many of you aren't ready for this.
It's a very different approach and requires one to be untether from years of indoctrination.
It's hard, I understand.
someone that is considered a deeply thoughtful person that has such a profound way with words.
an awe inspiring individual that attracts significant numbers during speeches and large events.
you must have a hard time carrying all that weight in your fat head so your release is to talk down to the little people.
tell us more thou Barry.

Your summary almost seems like you read my post from another site, in response to Ben Watson's incessant whining about inequality for blacks, and how he really has it backwards, if anything.
At any rate, I'm glad you've come around on this subject. It's very important for blacks AND whites that we call out affirmative action for what it is. Because all it does is dumb down society, by lowering standards for blacks, and taking away opportunities for others who aren't minorities.
It destroys the idea of personal growth, and leads to racial tensions that need not, and WOULD not exist, otherwise.

MLK would wonder why we now do the exact opposite of why he marched.
We are right back where we started. We judge by the color of one's skin instead of the content of their character and their ability to bring value to a job or position.
But the leftist filth want to destroy and conquer any society that is built on personal responsibility and work.

I’ve engaged in discussions with you before about AA hiring before and I remember you saying it was almost nonexistent.
I also remember discussing with you that regardless of how competent and deserving of your position you are, there would be people who thought you got there by AA.
Trust me, almost all white males will have a story of discrimination in the workplace against them in the name of diversity. I have a couple.
