"We all three (Williams and two assistants) had stopwatches, so we're not professional timers by any means," Williams said on Fox Sports' The Herd, "but he crossed the line and I looked and I said. 'Wow.'"

Trainer Marc Davis clocked Jordan's time at 4.39. Assistant Bill Guthridge had Jordan at 4.38.

"And I said, 'I did too,'" Williams said. "I said, 'Michael, we missed your start and we need you to run it again.' And he said, 'Oh, too fast for you, huh?'"

Jordan lined up for a second attempt, and all three coaches once again timed the 40 at sub-4.4 seconds.

Only four players ran faster 40-yard dashes than Jordan's unofficial 4.38 at this year's NFL combine.

Hand times become myth...

I mean Deion apparently ran a 4.2 and Bo a 4.1.

They say Usain Bolt runs a 4.22.

That means Deion and Bo are the fastest men in history.

Is this where we explain the difference between laser and hand timed and point out it’s not really impressive? Because the moron who wrote that with the NFL combine reference clearly doesn’t know. That’s about a 4.62 laser timed.

This just isn't remotely true. You know how fast that is?

Quez Watkins of Southern Miss had the second fastest 40 time among wide receivers in 2020 at 4.35 seconds.

I mean what? Now Jordan is also a World Class sprinter?

The same people going into full meltdown over these comments were the same types arguing Wilt Chamberlin could run 4.5 a couple weeks ago lol.

MJ would have easily been an elite football player

Why he went to baseball instead of football I’ll never understand. He damaged his brand a lot more by sucking at minor league baseball then he could have by sucking at pro football

I don't know why this would shock anyone given how athletic he was.

NBA players are the biggest freakshow athletes in pro sports

By the time this series is over, Jordan will also be rumored to have a cure for cancer.

I'm amenable to believing this, generally the great athletes of all-time get mythology attached to them. On the other hand, MJ's baseball sabbatical exposed his humanity and flaws from certain athletic elements so I'm not willing to jump fully in on this. Coach uses a ton of hyperbole when speaking about MJ, Worthy too, they're loyal to the legacy but I'm not completely convinced.

Hand times can be largely BS, but if it really was 3 different guys it adds a little more credence. Doubt he ran sub 4.4 but it’s not hard to believe one of the best athletes of all time ran a fast 40. I could easily believe 4.5’s, I bet Lebron in his 20s ran in the 4.5’s as well, which is insane for his size, but again freak athlete.
