Needed something for the backyard tree rats and pigeons.

My old Benjamin pump is broken.

Is the extra cost of the pcp worth it?

Just catch me up to date on the last 20 years of air rifles.

Have had this one for a number of years and is more than adequate. Daisy.

Gamo Swarm

My 12 yr old son loves it. He is a deadly squirrel and bird assassin with it.

Probably not worth it for that. I’d go with a break barrel. Plenty of knockdown power in those nowadays. Find one with a gas piston. The old spring piston break barrels are noisier and the vibration causes wear over time.

I have a Crosman Nitro Venom and Hatsan 125 Sniper Vortex both in .22. The Hatsan is more powerful and accurate, but the Crosman is still plenty of both. Hell, I’ve killed dozens of raccoons with the Crosman.

For squirrels and birds, .177 would be sufficient.

ETA: the Gamo rifles are also excellent choices.

I have a break barrel Gamo Fusion. I have/had a pigeon issue. It drops pigeons like a bag of dirt.

Midway USA has some good deals on pellet rifles right now. I would suggest a break barrel springer (Spring or Nitro piston). PCP is really for those that shoot in high volumes and/or need the ability for fast followup shots without cocking/pumping. Midway does have Benjamin Discovery PCP kit with hand pump for $259 right now which is a great price.

I did not want to deal with certain aspects of PCP, so I bought what I think is the best break barrel for the money and maybe even the best break barrel ever made. This is after fooling around with a budget underlever.

The Sig Sauer ASP20. Watch the videos on it from people who are into ait guns. Other than being slightly heavy, this gun is fantastic. I have killed two starlings this week at 62-70 yards.

have a knowledgeable GS replace the internal seals for $35. Will work like new again.

I love my Daystate Harrier .22 PCP. However, if you go that route you'll easily spend $500 ~ $1000+

Do some research, get a break-barrel of your choice. A few suggestions:
- Get an air rifle scope and decent mounts. They’re surprisingly hard on scopes, so don’t just slap a rimfire scope on there. No need to spend a ton of money on it (it’ll be Chinese), but don’t just blindly buy one from Walmart.
- They’re pretty ammo-sensitive if you’re trying to dial in accuracy. This one surprised me a but since the propulsion method doesn’t vary, but it’s true more often than not. Buy a few different pellet brands and see which one it likes.
- Don’t pull it into your shoulder like a rifle; it’ll hurt your accuracy. You want to give it room to move reward with the recoil.

I have this Hawke Vantage. Right around $100. No issues with my Sig piston break barrel.

Hatsan USA has insane deals on refurb and close outs. There's an underlever on their closeout page that gets good reviews that is slashed massively.

How do you keep it zeroed? I have a .22 and .177 and they both suck arse for consistent accuracy. Maybe the cheapo scope?

You have to have quality pellets such as Diablo. Also, the scope has to be for a forward recoil pellet gun if that is what you have. The forward jump messes with a regular scope.

I shoot JSB pellets in my Daystate, quality pellets definitely make a difference in accuracy and consistency

What range are you all zeroing in your scopes?

I cant seem to get the scope that came with my Gamo to be accurate. Shooting the Gamo pellets that came with the gun.

Where are you located Snapper? I have a Gamo that I might want to get rid of at a reasonable price.
