I have owned two break barrel Gamo’s. One was $70 and the other over $100. Both would not shoot a consistent grouping. Gave the last one to a friend for him to try to sight it in. Same results.

I stepped up to a Benjamin Fortitude (pcp). Groupings at 20 yds are quarter sized. The scope and pump are solid if you get the benjamin kits. There is a short break in period, but they do give you 50+ shots per recharge.

Shoot hollow points, 177. All of the other pellets I tried were going through the squirrels and they would run off and die in my neighbors attic.

I've had a Gamo Silver Shadow (0.177) w/scope for years. It wacks tree rats/coons at 40 yds. Paid a guy to upgrade springs, trigger, etc. (ie he tunned it).

What range are you all zeroing in your scopes? I cant seem to get the scope that came with my Gamo to be accurate. Shooting the Gamo pellets that came with the gun.
20 yds or so on "zero".

I think the scopes that come with the rifles say from Academy aren't very good, and that's what I have on mine. But I did mount a Weaver K6 on one of my air guns and it still wouldn't group.

Had a hornet that I returned that would stack 10 shots in a 1.5" circle at 25 yds then the next time I picked it up would scatter, or be shooting 6" right???? I chalked it up to them being Ps OS.

I did learn here the "artillery hold" is essential for accuracy as well.

Important for my Umarex. Not important for my Sig.

I went through this same choice about 3 months ago. Went and bought the Gamo Swarm Whisper at Bowie's. it was like $179.00. Super Satisfied. Hammering tree rats from far away.

Get something with a nitro piston for sure.
Edited to add that one of my sons had a Benjamin Trail XL 1100 in .22 cal. Accurate and kill shot strong for small game.

Theres an old man in grand coteau that will repair your old benjamin for like $75. He completely redid mine that my grandfather gave me years ago.

It’s really not hard to do. I ordered the kit for mine and did it myself for like $35.

As for a break barrel, I have the gamo swarm magnum .22. Thing is a beast. At first I thought it was junk but apparently they have a break in period and after I shot the first few hundred pellets inaccurately, it started driving tacks at 30-40 yards. Shooting the cheap crossman premier pellets too.

For a cheap pellet, it's hard to beat the Crossman Premier. Great for breaking in a gun. Took my Umarex Octane about 300 shots or so before it started grouping really well. I almost gave up on it until I read up on breaking it in and the "artillery hold".

I was doing everything opposite of this, like I would shooting a high power rifle. I am definitely going to give this a try since I have a break barrel.

I have a Benjamin Trail XL break barrel in .22 caliber. I upgraded the trigger, but still using the scope that came with it. It is plenty powerful and well made. A little on the heavy side, but it is accurate to 20-25 yards.

Bought my father a Gamo Swarm XXX for his tree rat problem, and he loves it. He is crushing squirrels at his house.

I have a cheap gamo. It will do quarter size groups at 20 yards from a bench. The barrel needs to be cleaned and re-seasoned from time to time.

My Benjamin Summit just got delivered today. Spent about 2 hours trying to get it sighted in and that damn thing is jumping all over on me. So damn frustrating. I guess I’ll have too upgrade ammo and the scope. It’s got a lot of arse behind it though.

Got it for $113 including S&H, usually retails for $199 before taxes.

Usually takes a few hundred pellets to break them in. Should get more consistent after a while. I wouldn’t be too discouraged yet.

Break barrel in .22. You can get some through and throughs with a high velocity .177. Just my experience.

I bout wrapped mine around a tree I was so disgusted with it...but it finally broke in. I took a few month break from it I got so burned out. But once it got broke in, it's a plinking machine. Just stick with it.

Watch YouTube videos on your model. Someone has probably figured out what ammo it likes. Will most likely be JSB or H and N.
