I don’t think this is a colonoscopy substitute.

This is a procedure I dreaded. I put it off for 6 years. Once I did it, I felt foolish for worrying about something so easy. Just get it done. You're not awake.

colon. Whoever said it is unreliable needs to share statistics to back it up.

It’s on the actual commercial in fine print that the false positive is 11%... which is crazy high.

If you saw the car my gastroenterologist drives and the house he owns, you would consider it. He also only works from 8-4 M-F, very rarely weekend. Beats the heck out of being a GP working 10-12 hours a day, plus tons of calls on the weekends for half the money.

Colonoscopies are just fine. You get prepped. That’s a little distasteful. But then your clean. You go in. Put in IV. Shoot the shite with Doc and Nurse Anesthetist for about five minutes. They say we’re gonna do it. You wake up later and feel like you’ve had the best sleep. Overall it is pleasant. You are going to get a rec from your doc to do a scope anyway at a certain age. Need to find those pesky adenomous polyps that may not show occult blood. My colon is clean as a newborn. Don’t need another for ten years.

I am in the same situation and have talked to my doc about them. She says insurance won’t cover it, so you’ll have to come up with the $500.

Then get a new doctor. Check with your insurance. It should be covered and if you find it is mail her a separate sample.

If you don’t have a false positive then you have nothing shoved up your arse so why not just crap in the box as a first step and hope they find no corn in the stool?

A family member recently had a scope and they found pre cancerous polyps. This was after being clean five years ago. You don't want the first indication of cancer to be a bloody cancerous lesion in your large intestine. Find the polyps before they become cancerous. That is unless you don't mind having a foot of your colon removed or chemo or all that stuff.

Yeah, there really is nothing to it. I'm 44 and colon cancer is present in my family history. Had it done 2 years ago and they found 3 polyps and burnt them right off. I'll have it done again in a few more.

I really dreaded it but there was nothing to it. Like everyone says, the prep is the worst part and if you get some of the medicated wipes, even that isn't too bad. It's not pleasant, but it's the what we make it out to be in our heads.

don't waste your time. They will tell you to get a video up your butt because you are past the recommended age to get one.

You don't know there is anything up your arse so it's like it never happened. You guys are all about PIIHB, but when the tables are turned, a bunch of little chickens. Lol

Let me help you...

I've had to have 9 scopes. Had to have my colon removed 8 years ago.

Get the fricking test man. Problem is with colons is once the cancer gets outside of the colon wall into the sub tissue it goes all over the body. There is a map of the places it gets to first. You're fricked.

Get the damn test. It's easy as shite (pun intended).

Quit being a pussy

If you have family history get the colonoscopy.

No family history poop in box.

As an aside, opening the boxes is a shitty job I bet.

It really isn't. I spoke to my Dr. about one of these test kits since I'm now on Medicare and retired and People's Health sent one to my house to send in a sample by being pro-active.

My Dr. told me there are a lot of false positives with those kits and you'll wind up doing a colonoscopy anyway. Well, it had been over 10 years since I had my first one and opted to have another one done just to be safe.

Luckily no problems, but they did find some polyps that were removed and sent to a lab that came back benign.

Just get the colonoscopy. It's the damn prep that is not nice, but the procedure is a piece of cake.

If it comes back negative are you going to wonder if you’re one of the 11% that were wrong? Better to have a MD actually looking at your colon. Prep is the worst part. Just make sure whatever facility you go to uses both propofol and IV fluid . Some do not.
