We don't intentionally fly with actual nuclear weapons anymore and haven't for my entire 20 year career.
Edit: Added the word "intentionally" because as someone pointed out, we did in fact fly one sortie with nuclear weapons in 2007.

Yeah, no way that wouldn't be going on a wall in my shop or garage. WTH calls the Air Force to report that?

Has it been 20 years since 4 or 5 nukes got "lost" on a flight from Minot to Shreveport? They didn't really get lost, but were taken off the aircraft and stored. They noticed they were missing like the next day. I think a bird Colonel got his goose cooked for that little mix up.

What a dumbass. If that landed on my property, that sumbitch would have been hanging in my house within the hour.
I know. What would the charge be if they got a warrant?
“Hatch? What hatch?”

Yeah, OK. I should have clarified that we don't intentionally fly with nukes.
Three Colonels (5th Bomb Wing Commander, 5th Maintenance Group Commander, and 2nd Operations Group Commander) plus 4 Lt Colonels (5th Munitions Squadron Commander, 2nd Ops Group Deputy Commander, 96th Bomb Squadron Commander, and 96th Bomb Squadron Director of Operations) were all fired over that.
They were noticed the same day when they started to download them from the jet, but because custody was not accounted for (i.e. all the official documentation listed them as in Minot the entire time) up until that point, some thought that meant we "lost" them. They were never lost, they just weren't properly guarded. And they were never supposed to be moved. What was supposed to be moved were the missile bodies (minus the warhead) of the same variant missile as part of the process to have them de-militarized and taken out of the AF inventory.
I'm very familiar with that incident, what led to it, and what all happened in the aftermath.

This will no doubt hatch some inquiries......

Holy shite! I didn't realize there was that much fallout as a result. I knew they weren't really lost lost. They were just somewhere on Barksdale when they should have been in Minot.
Helluva thing to lose your career over.

Yep. And the next Wing Commander at Minot also got fired for doing enough to right the ship during his tenure. Proven by failing the Initial Nuclear Surety Inspection (INSI) that was done to try to provide the nuclear certification that was necessary to formally stand up the 69th Bomb Squadron (B-52 ops squadron added as a result of the lessons learned derived from the accidental weapon shipment).
Also, combined with this incident is when the AF also accidentally shipped some nuclear critical components to Taiwan on accident. That combination led to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force to get fired as well. Not a good time to be in the nuclear bomber business in 2007-2009.

I was asking if it was actually a good thing didn't get a nuke dropped on it.
