Much better place to ride out a pandemic.

You enjoy sitting in hours of traffic to get to work everyday?

Houses on top each other.
Small yard.
Cookie cutter DR Horton McMansion.
Possibly Nazi Home Owner Association.
People parking in your yard (read: not your property, but it feels like it.)
Attractive destination for yutes looking to check your car for valuables.

No thanks.

As someone who has lived in the burbs my whole life, I am starting to get disillusioned with the burbs.

It is the suburbs where you find the most support for nancy state laws, karens, etc.

I have James Beard award winning restaurants serving takeout and at least a half dozen places stocking bourbon within walking distance.

Also a steady stream of 20-somethings running past in varying levels of spandex covering.

But yeah, the burbs sound awesome with kids yelling in the front yard and worrying someone is going to call 311 on you.

Yeah not me. All my friends that live in the burbs can't get instacart delivery for like a week. I can walk to my grocery store or have them drop off my groceries in a couple of hours. The only reason I occasionally go to the burbs is if Karen calls and needs a big D.

To be honest, commute is worse now that Express lanes are closed. fricking crazy arse people on the road trying to go 100 mph. I’d happily pay a few bucks to get back in the rich lane.

City or country. Nothing in between.

Living in the suburbs is awesome.

8 minute commute
Custom home
Big yard, mature trees
On a bayou
No noise
All my neighbors are nice traditional nuclear families that share the same values as me.

I lived in West Loop (Chicago - Halsted/Randolph area) and enjoyed it. The restaurants, bars, and entertainment in that area is flat out awesome now. That was my first experience living in a real city and I absolutely loved it - especially in the spring. Everyone should live in a place like that for at least a year or two.

I now live in the suburbs. When the weather sucks or I’m riding out a pandemic, I like being here. I have access to Instacart, Door Dash, etc. and a massive kitchen. I am at a point in life where day cares and public schools are more important than an urban lifestyle.

If I were 10 years younger and single, I would move to South Loop. That’s just not me anymore.

we're in GOD'S COUNTRY, MAN.

even our walmart in Fairview is pretty nice.

lot sizes around me START at 2.5 acres and goes up from there.

i can shoot firearms in the woods behind my house (although miley's security guards send drones over my house every time i do it to see whats going on)

We never leave our Burb, we have every essential thing we need including a lake within 8 miles.

I kind of like living right between the city and the burbs... the almost burbs. Easy in for events (if they ever happen again), but still get the good schools.

I'll say that this pandemic has made my commute easy. I hope a lot of people transition to working from home long term and stay off the roads.

Being in the middle of a city hasn’t been an issue here. But I can see how it would be nicer in the suburbs.

But eventually this will end. And then the suburbs will be back to being an extremely boring place to be. So, enjoy your moment I guess.

It's all just about preference, and it is ok that people have different preferences. I'm not technically in the city limits, but not really in a suburb, I can get downtown in probably 15 minutes, traffic flows great here. I like the family neighborhood, even if the houses are cookie cutter, because its a great place for my kid to grow up and we do have good public schools.

I had a totally different view before I had a child and always wanted to be right in a city. But now I am ok being a little farther out. We got much more house, and newer, for our money. I also don't have a commute so that helps.

When I was in my early 20s living and working in the loop in Houston you could not have paid me money to live out in Katy or something.
