Accurate film adaptations

If this has been posted previously, I apologize. I did a quick search using the term "adaptation."
For those books that have been made into movies or other productions, which are the most faithful to the book/books?
I am currently re-reading Frederick Forsyth's The Day of the Jackal a longtime favorite of mine. It is one of the "truest" I have run across. Forsyth's The Fourth Protocol was decent, as well, but the movie has a few holes, of course some of that is due to the slow nature trying to explain "office politics" within the British intelligence community and the attitudes therein between the university class and the field class/military types who come into the services later in life.
The Harry Potter series is fairly accurate.

The Godfather is very faithful, and the parts of godfather 2 from the book are well done too (the Don's backstory).
Shawshank redemption and and the green mile have some small changes but overall are very close.
The fellowship of the ring is fairly close outside of no bombadil. The 2nd and third movies are not that close to the books.
To kill a mockingbird has some differences, but is close to the heart of the book.

The first two books, it starts going off the rails after that, culminating in the abomination that is The Half Blood Prince. They do a good job in Deathly Hallows 1 and a good job in 2 up until the end and then it goes off the rails again.

Which is absurd because the book's version of the Battle of Hogwarts is perfect and would have been perfect on screen as well.

There’s always going to be some changes for translating to cinema or another medium. So I’ll judge on how close to capturing the spirit of the book.
Fight Club is the first that comes to mind. Both book and movie are incredible.
Princess Bride comes to mind as well, both timeless classics

Also the Lolita that came out after Kubrick's version, and Spielberg's Empire of the Sun was a great adaption of JG Ballards most famous novel.

I remember reading this book freshman year of high school and then watching the movie when it came out a few years later and being amazed at how the movie was almost exactly how i pictured it in my head.

Stand by Me / The Body, was a great adaptation of a King work for once.
