Captain Crozier joins a growing list of heroic men and women who have risked their careers over the last few weeks to speak out about life-threatening failures to treat the victims of this terrible pandemic. Many of them are doctors and nurses, and many of them, like Captain Crozier, have been punished. All of them deserve our deepest gratitude.

Captain Crozier is a POS.
He broke navy protocol.

On top of that he showed self to be a drama queen. Claiming deaths were certain.

Gimme a break.
To get into Navy you cannot be obese, cannot have Asthma, blood pressure, etc.
Nobody is going to die on that ship. Period.

Fixed it for you. He deserves a dishonorable discharge.

Hope calling attention to himself was worth it.

I am still waiting for someone to explain how the ship was allowed to take a port of call in Vietnam in the face of this pandemic. Did the captain have final say on this? Was he ordered to do it against his wishes? No one on that boat should have been allowed to step foot in any asian country.

Echoes of history. Theodore Roosevelt the ship's namesake did similar thing while commanding the Rough Riders. Unfortunately, stimulating attention outside the immediate organization is often what it takes to get the ball rolling. This officer was looking out for the lives of his sailors in peacetime and sought to preserve max combat power if called upon in near future. It was already publicly available info that there were infections on ship not an OPSEC issue. We've all seen health and conditions for troops neglected for years until external attention is brought to bear (burn pits, toxic mold, military housing, VA hospitals, etc..)

it ALL boils down to Crozier being a registered Democrat. that's it.... that's the ONLY reason most of the mainstream media are praising and worshiping him. if he had a (R) next to his name they would be demonizing and condemning him like they do each and every person who thinks differently than them.

I think lots of folks are trying to make this more than it is. If you think this Captain's decision to sacrifice his own career for his crew's welfare had to do anything with his support or dislike of Trump, you live in a fantasy world.

In my small slice of military experience, there are many "strategic" decision makers so detached from the actual operations, they are also incapable of making a decision without some kind of group buy-in, so no one is to blame.

A Captain on a boat with a rapidly deteriorating health situation of his crew, not a ton of good information on the virus, he isn't afforded the same "group think" meeting time. He doesn't have time to put together some power-point slides and talking papers with COAs, so we can make a decision after we hit the gym, eat lunch and finally read all the slides in the slide deck, have some meeting where everyone wants to hear their own voice for 2 hours and the result is, "let's continue to monitor the situation."

The Captain likely ran into the above, and had to make the decision to fall on his sword to save his crew. I'm not going to say the guy is faultless in the entire ordeal, I'm just saying I understand. I admire his self-sacrifice.

Anyone suggesting the Navy is a "healthy" force is clueless. Fatties in a Navy uniform is pretty normal, I think vaping or smoking is mandatory too.

Could he not have communicated with his superiors/etc. by other means other than a letter??? I mean if he had been at sea.......Sounds as if he wanted attention writing a letter and cc: 20-30 people. We don't need a 'cry baby' commanding a major U.S. warship. He got what he deserved, and frick the NYT

Many failed to mention that wherever this carrier goes a large support group goes with it. Crozier sounds a lot similar to a FB Karen. This ship has a sickbay with qualified docs and nurses, he should have let them do their jobs. I do have to wonder how in the Hell did he become a carrier captain and how he got his ensign commission.

Here is the thing about this captain. If he was truly concerned about the health of his crew, why send out an unsecured email to 30-40 people outside his chain of command who can’t do jack shite to help instead of walking down the hall to his commanding officer and express his concerns to him considering the admiral was in a far better position to actually do something?
