If he leaked it to the press it's b/c his superiors were doing frick all about it and backed him into a corner. Protect his men or protect the shield. He protected his men. People that high up don't throw away their careers on a whim.

Sorry, this isn't how it works. Tell me, has the principled skipper explained why he allowed his men to take port of call in Vietnam in the face of this pandemic? Was that in the memo he leaked to the press?

Probably creates a target for that ship to our enemies as they know it is facing turmoil or will be undermanned.
It's been sitting next to the pier in Guam for over a week.
Also, we are not at war

It was a very solid analysis of the bullshite you posted. The guy was no hero as you claimed nor was he protecting his people. He made poor command decisions going back to authorizing a foreign port visit during a pandemic. The skipper is a moron.

That might be a little harsh but the Roosevelt operates in the face of the Chinese navy. As far as I'm concerned, they are our greatest threat at the present time and we just had an officer in charge of one of our country's most powerful assets against them declare to the world that we are unready to face them if they were to make an aggressive move in southeast Asia.
There's no need to be dramatic. We're not at war (an actual war), the ship has been in port unready to do anything for a week, we have 12 carriers for a reason and many more sub's.
Nobody raised hell when the George Washington was out of commission for months after a fire. This is temporary.

Yeah I'm sure the Chinese have blueprints to every ship we have, but how stupid is it to confirm the layout? How stupid is it to confirm that we don't have the ability to effectively quarantine on one of these ships?
Right. There is still always the threat of a future bio attack which is the issue here.

If you don't think we are at war with China, think again.

Good.
He betrayed his obligations to OpSec, undermined his superiors and gave our enemies useful information.
He did as much to put our sailors in grave danger as Coronavirus is doing right now.

OPSEC violations happen frickin daily on US military radios and channels around the world.
It's quite different when it's the captain for 14 billion dollar aircraft carrier and is responsible for the safety of five thousand men and women on the carrier.
Aircraft carrier captain is not something the Navy just picks a random guy for. It's carefully vetted like it's a damn enema.
And when the captain betrays the confidence of the top brass in the Pentagon who gave him the prestigious position of carrier captain, they'll come down hard on him.

The ship was in Guam. They were in no danger at all.
Doesn't matter.
The captain knew better and did not act accordingly.

Great point. Now explain to me why getting attention to this issue before it spread to five thousand people is a bad thing.

As I said in an earlier post; Captain went to top brass for help. They told him to zip lips, frick himself, and deal with it. He chose to get attention to the issue before it got worse. He made the right call. I don’t see his confirming a layout that the Chinese 99% already have had for years is a more serious danger than letting a contagious disease ravage his entire crew.

I have edited the OP. The original article quoted Reuters' claim that officials inside the Navy believed he had leaked the memo. That report was fake news.
There is no proof the captain leaked the memo and so I would like to apologize for my original accusation that was based on a previous article.

Writing the letter and bringing attention to the matter was not and is still not the issue.
Leaking the letter is the issue because it undermines OPSEC and gives our enemy useful information. And especially so when it puts those sailors in as much danger as Coronavirus does.

And that should've been the end of it while the brass figured out what to do or choose not to do.

I really hope this is the case because I would hate to think that the captain for one of our prized 14 billion dollar aircraft carriers would be so reckless and stupid as that is a bad look for our Navy on top of our enemies getting useful information here.

What useful information?
If there was intelligence that it wasn't safe for people to be let off the ship in Vietnam shouldn't that have come from top brass.
This is a failure at the highest level 3 months ago. The captain is an honorable man
The commander in chief the Intel community and everyone that has downplayed this for months are the cowards.

Pretty much.
Our leadership from about every top level official has been at best wishy-washy, more likely disingenious, about the threat of this from the get go.

The military was ordered to stop reporting its cases
The issue this went public is why he got fired
