And for the unwashed out there no senior position is more thoroughly vetted than carrier commander. You don’t just slide in on a banana peel and get that gig.
Eight years of Obama, everything was politicized.
E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.
He ruined the CIA, the FBI, and the DOD in *eight fricking years*.
In a way, ya gotta hand it to him. He set out to enact "fundamental change" and now the Vindmans and Croziers of the world are counted as "heroes".

Edit the OP. Reuters is fake news. SECNAV says there is no proof he leaked the letter personally to the press.

This is a true reflection of our military. Get rank, obstruct or get a sex change, and then retire with full pension and a gig on the talk circuit with a book deal and a movie with Netflix.
But hey, we spent 750 billion on them last year, what do you expect results like kicking a few 4th world countries arses in less than 17 years? Maybe foreseeing a bio-weapons threat? Maybe reducing the threat of millions of illegal immigrants when they leave their own countries?

Was he taken off the line and treated for the malaria?

Kinda like Comey didn't directly leak either?

Keep seeing that this is his "hometown" newspaper.
Question: I wonder if he and his family are from Pelosi's district? Or Schiff's?

But then at like the drop of the hat it was embraced as mantra, by many, not all but many. I don't know how much it swung back under Trump, but the numbers of those who would undermine this administration is scary to imagine.
Sad. We are here though. God will sort it out in the end, so whatevs. My fam is old school mil and would like to see the lib side of the current mil hung, but judgement is reserved not by man but the Lord.

Sad that he can't handle a flu. Our military is soft AF - losers in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Our? I thought you weren't American
And our military is certainly not soft

Doesn't matter if the Captain leaked the document or not, he wrote it, which is just as bad. Ultimately, He is responsible for every Officer, NCO, and rating on the boat, and he melted down. CINCPAC will release a statement stating confidence was lost in his ability to command.

No, he passed in 2018. And I don't think was wrong about anything.

agreed, he was spot on. sad to hear he passed away.

Seems like the Captain just got caught up in all the bad press and crazy numbers flying around about deaths after Monday and due to his situation being far away from home on an aircraft carrier felt isolated and had some kind of anxiety attack or nervous breaksown about his situation and shot off a not well thought out email.
I read the letter and seems a bit panicked. I think he had the world on his shoulders and broke down.
Not a good trait of you run a carrier because what would happen at war, but it seems like a massive error in judgment on his part and probably due to pressure of it all.

He deserves to face Court Martial as well. You don’t reveal something like a freaking aircraft carrier being out of commission for weeks without facing serious legal consequences.

I can't say definitively, as I am no longer active duty, but what I have read does nothing for my confidence level concerning readiness. I mean, when your focus is having the military pay to get breast implants and have your dick chopped off, soft is what definitely comes to mind.

skippers don't have nervous breakdowns. if they do they are trained on the exact measures to remedy the anxiety w/o even thinking. there are ways of communicating for immediate relief. his letter seems like someone made it political, this is wrong in so many ways.

If you have questions about his ability to command a 14 billion dollar aircraft carrier and the five thousand people on board, then that's a lack of confidence in his ability command and he should be removed from his post.
Some things you just can't play around with including a position like his.

Something I haven't seen brought up. The captain sent out the letter to 30 people. It seems like this was his best way to get it out to the press, since the larger the number, the harder it is to prove who actually provided it to the press. On face value, and knowing how intelligent a person has to be to get command of an aircraft carrier, this wasn't just a fluke. I can imagine he is getting ready for a polygraph right now.

quote:Yeah. The idea that a AC commander doesn't have a secure way to transmit a letter about force readiness to his chain-of-command is... silly.

He deserves a discharge, not just a duty reassignment.
