Wrong, medical/dental issues directly relate to fighting capability!

By telling the world he wanted only 10% of staff running the ship? That's painting a helluva red bull's eye on your back don't you think?

Why is everyone assuming that it was Captain Crozier who leaked to the press?

Assuming he was NOT the leak, was he not conveying up the chain of command EXACTLY the type of info that his superiors may have needed in order to ASSESS operational readiness?

The fact that I don't see any classified markings on the document puts the onus on the Captain. That letter should at least been classified Secret.

The only people who would want a ship captain to whine to the media when things get tight would be liberals and their such insufferable fricks no sane person would want to serve with them.

Good riddance to a coward

The act of leaking the letter more than cancels out his concern for the sailors on his ship.

Compromising OpSec is a big no no and does as much to put those sailors in grave danger as the coronavirus is doing right now.

In his judgment, the juice was worth the squeeze considering the operational security implications. In my Navy days, I would want a CO who had my back like, but I'd definitely fire a subordinate who went outside the chain in such a way.

Intent matters to me here.

Did he specifically do it to aid a foreign enemy? If so, that is treason.

If he did not do it to aid an enemy and it's undermining his superiors and disregarding his obligations to OpSec, it's sedition.

The captain may have had good intentions but the act itself is sedition by definition.

He should be commended for his actions. But he still needs to be disciplined. He was looking out for his sailors at the expense of his own career. That takes courage.

Maybe he was.

He was, the sitreps etc aren't open to interpretation.

You can't possibly believe that all actions that reckless disregard opsec are sedition. Have you ever looked at a sailor social media?

So, it is a metaphysical impossibility that ANYONE ELSE could have leaked the info?

OK

At a time when China is asserting itself and rapidly expanding it's influence in southeast Asia, this is failure to maintain security is absolutely intolerable.

It wouldn't be hard for an intelligence agency worth it's salt to figure out the state of readiness of every DDG and LHD in the Strait of Taiwan, based upon when and where the ship last made port and the spread-rate of the flu provided in the Captain's letter.

There's quite a difference between the run of the mill sailor and the goddamn aircraft carrier captain.

Like a previous poster said, carrier captains are highly vetted like it's a damn enema. Captains are responsible for five thousand people on the ship and responsible for other ships in his fleet. Every action he takes has an effect on those people and the buck stops with him.

Any action that the captain takes that compromises OpSec deserves and will get more scrutiny than a random sailor.

He was removed for leaking it.

Not for penning the letter.

Well that is a problem then. Putting the shoe on the other foot, I would say it is marginally difficult for US Intelligence agencies to get that type of information on our adversaries.

Well Hank, even if he did not leake it personally his failure to follow the chain of command and proper security for his communication unquestionably created the opportunity for it to be leaked.

He had to go. The example he set for other leaders could not be allowed to stand.

There is also the political-military sensitivity, which he is either ignorant of or malicious.

If a US intelligence asset in Russia could get a letter like this from one of their major ships Captains, that would be a tremendous coup. And then if the US powers that be decided to publish it, it would be purely to undermine the current regime and it would not be negligible.

That's just it. The leak did start with him whether he leaked it directly to someone in the press or leaked it to someone he knew would leak it to the press.

Since Obama there have been so many unprecedented military happenings. It worsened with Trump finding out the Pentagon is PC fixed with call me Lt. Col. Vindmans.

I knew when I heard this story the other day something was off. You don't break the chain of command and go to the media and whine.

I found his little peacetime diatribe a bit sickening as well. I kind of wish he would get the Great Santini treatment and speech as well. The hygiene part seems relevant as well. I will just leave this here.

Also more importantly, you only wiped yourself twice - grossly insufficient. Right now, germs with names you can't even pronounce are preparing to launch a devastating attack that will render you helpless in the defense of your country... Do you read me?
