Just a curiousity: Why is NYC getting hit so much harder than LA?

Due to the similar Chinese population in Los Angeles along with more flights to China, I would have expected them to get hit at least as hard. Ten percent of San Franciso's population is Chinese and they only have 152 cases.

Yet, NYC has 14904 with suburbs like Westerchester, Nassau and Suffolk coming up quick while Los Angeles County has only 662 cases.

Much higher population density?

Yup NYC has by far the highest population density of any US city (that has 100K+)

I think people in NYC are just so much more on top of each other

LA is big but it's a little sprawling. NYC is like a giant phone booth.

Maybe the numbers are actually closer but people in Los Angeles are healthier and have stronger immune systems.

I think New York got the Chinese visitor impact but that was less than the visitors to and from Italy and the rest of Europe.

That and the population density is way higher in NY

NYC is the destination city for young people. Young people are not, in general, taking the pandemic seriously. It’s spreading like a wildfire because of their irresponsibility.

Public transportation in NYC is not helping. Very few have cars. Subway system.

Not sure about L.A.
