Just getting going on this game with my 6 year old. It's really cool. I got bored and picked every weed off the island. Actually found it soothing lol.

Anyways, we JUST got the upgrade of Resident Services into a building. Any tips? We try to get all the iron nuggets, wood, fossils, flowers, etc per day we can. Anything we should be saving up for or selling for profit? We owe the 198,000 bell on the house.

READ PAGE 170 for great beginner tips

Yeah she'd love that thanks!

And IT_Dawg, there's no wrong way to play, whether you want to save up or splurge. The bells are easier to come by with each day. Also, go back a couple pages to 170, Sahiko posted some really awesome guides and tips.

Thanks. I actually was just coming back to edit that I read page 170

You guys are really helpful. Thank you. We just got our first "star fragment" and my son was going nuts. We learned the wand recipe last night and saw a couple shooting stars, so I guess they show up on the beach the next day?

I really like "farming" wood, flowers and weeds for him each day. There's a million trees right now and he only likes to do about 5-10 and hes done. I do the rest. We have about 300 of every wood type. I guess i should start crafting and selling to finishing paying off the 198k (we have about 170k in the bank right now)

Nice!

Once you have Resident Services, you may need to talk to Tom Nook about infrastructure, he may give you the option to buy kits for the remaining five houses to get your island to 10 villagers. My nephew got stuck in his progress because he got to this step and didn't know he was supposed to do this, and it was keeping him from being able to get his 3 star rating for K.K. Slider to visit (the villagers are worth so many points each).

Also, every day Nook's should have a Hot Item that sells for (I think) double the normal price- if you're trying to grind DIYs for bells, that's a good place to start. It's like an employer match for your raccoon-based 401k.

I don't know what this means yet, but I will keep it in mind.

Right now we just put up the campsite this morning. I assume Mr. Nook will have more to say after that is up and running tomorrow.

I legit lol'd

Yea, we built like 5-6 wooden swings today and make 14g

Oh, right! Yes that is step #1. Once your campsite gets a visitor, Nook helps you get them a house to move in to. After they move in you should have unlocked the ability to buy the rest of the houses (under Nook's infrastructure submenu).

I think I’m bad at this game, I am only able to login at night time usually because every time I sit down to play my wife gives me some honey do chore. Taking me forever to get the iron nuggets, slowly going to other islands to get them. I got bit by the tarantula like 5 times before I finally caught it and little Tom nook gave me some big dough for that

I might be able to help with that a little!

The rocks can spit out up to 8 items each a day but only if you hit them very fast in rapid succession. The trick is to position yourself with something behind you (I put pieces of fence or shrubs behind the corner I stand in) and then wail on A until the rock stops spitting things out. The pushback of each strike of the rock will bump you up against the fence but keep you in range of the rock for the next hit so you never have to reposition and you can get the most strikes in possible.

Also the tarantulas have a trick too! When you get too close, they will freeze and rise up on their hind legs and hiss. You have to play a bit of a red-light-green-light game with them until you are in striking range. Hold the button down that holds the net up but doesn't swing it and creep forward, pausing every time the spider rises up and inching a couple of steps forward when it settles back down until you get within range of a good swing and shoot your shot. Sometimes you can find that mystery island with the tarantulas and load up and make bank, and later on when Flick starts visiting your island, you can make even more selling them to him.

If you sneak up on it (swim without pushing A, angle the camera as straight up and down as you can so you can see how close you are as you inch up on it, and only dive at the last second), it can be a little easier to snatch very fast sea critters up before they take off.

I was not expecting how big that crab was going to be. I am going to have to hunt down a second one since I gave my first one to Blathers (and now my deep sea tank is a dark pit of ancient horrors).

I have caught several now and have used the strategy you mentioned and it really did help. Another thing one can do is chase it into the corner of the net around the island and it will eventually turn back into you. Your strategy is faster, though. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you Mike! I've been playing this game over a year almost and only had 3 Same with elephant slides. I think the game just gives you the same things over and over. For me it's pink and blue/yellow. You always come in clutch.

BCLA, I have the scale along with other pink things like vaccum, table setting, air circulator, tankless toilet, iron board, washer, desk mirror, and sewing machine, Just lmk which other ones you want. My drink machine from nook shopping is also pink and I can buy your daughter one.

Able Sisters desperately needs to adjust their ratio of female clothing items to male clothing items. Most of the clothes in my store are female.

K.K. Slider is a famous dog musician in the game. Once you get to a 3 star rating for your island, he comes there and has a concert. After that happens, it unlocks the construction app on your phone so that you can build paths, change/build rivers and ponds, and change/build land.

Can't believe tehre is even more to do...I can't keep up now.
So anyone have a go to guide as far as residents go? Like, do I just get the first 10 and then make them leave if they are crappy? how does that work. My 6 year old watches a lot of videos and says it matters who the residents are

Absolutely DO NOT just straight up invite the first ones you meet... make sure you like them first. You can generally get a pretty good idea from the initial greeting on if it’s someone you might want around or someone who might be annoying. And otherwise you can look them up online before pulling the trigger on inviting them.

I got lucky and invited the first 3 I met, two of which are permanent residents (Ketchup included). I eventually let one go. But for all the rest I did a ton of island hopping and rejected a bunch before I found ones I liked.

Don’t sweat it too much though. Nothing is final. They will all eventually ask your advice whether or not they should stay or move away. And you make the decision for them.

You can also buy Amiibo cards or equivalents in the future for fairly decent price and invite the ones you want to your campsite at which point you can recruit them to replace villagers you don’t like.

But I recommend to enjoy the hunt for random villagers first to fill all your houses. It’s probably best part of the game for me and the kids.

Okay cool. I didn’t really like Fang this morning. We pretty much invited everyone else. But we can’t start building island stuff until our island has all 10 houses right?
Residents now:
Drago
Katt
Patty
Cousteou
Marina
Ed

Those are pretty good ones I think. We have Marina. We like her. We also have Meringue, Ketchup (HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER), Lily a cute frog, Apple a chubby little hamster. She is in charge of our orchard. We have Caroline - a cute squirrel, Ankah, a cat, Flora and Fauna, an ostrich and a deer, and Audie a wolf who thinks she is a fox. We were super lucky and found Audie and Fauna on mystery islands. The rest we got with amiibo cards. If you can go on dream trips. That is a good way to talk to the villagers on other islands to see if you like them. There are also youtube videos with villagers in them to watch.

A lot of people like to get at least one of each of the personalities. We had Dom, Plucky, Marshal, and Curlos at different times so we got some of the recipes they provided. We ended up with all normal and peppy villagers with one snooty. The recipes they don't provide we get through bottles on the beach. We decided to go with the ones we liked instead of the certain personality types.
