Zion Williamson announced Friday that he is covering all Smoothie King Center workers' pay for the next 30 days. With the NBA at a standstill for at least the next month while it waits out the coronavirus, many of the hospitality workers and game-day staff were going to miss pay checks.

Wow! How considerate of him to think of this. Especially at such a young age.

Smh this is why ball players go broke so quick, let the owner cover his employees salaries.

shite. Owner doesn’t have to pay it and she’ll end up taking part of his salary for the suspension of play. Win for her

Incredible move by the man.

Benson should step in and cover the cost or match it.

Good investment. He'll get a sponsorship or two out of this.

I agree this should be the obligation of the billion dollar entities that laid these people off at a seconds notice. But there's a reason Zion notified social media that he's doing this, rather than quietly facilitating it through the Pel's front office. Whatever this costs him in the next month, he'll more than make back via the good will he just bought for the Zion brand.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's doing this out of greed rather than a place of kindness. I just see it as an identifiable PR opportunity to do good and buy yourself/brand some good will no different than a large company does. Zion is already a young superstar and just added a huge amount of likeability to his brand. :
