He's incredibly lucky. If he would have lost consciousness from the force of the impact, he doesn't survive.

Hamilton out this weekend....
Will be interesting to see if Mercs still come in 1-2.
Maybe Max should quit and sign with Merc for a weekend to see the difference in the cars.

This hurts Hamilton's chances of winning this weekend, but it is Hamilton, so anything is possible, I guess.
And from the reddit thread - "Russell is hurriedly making the most important PowerPoint presentation he's ever made...plsToto_new_final1.pptx"

Yep... gonna out the whole "anybody can win in a merc" theory to the test
Stoffel Vandoorne, come on down!!
Nikita Mazepin confirmed for HAAS next year

Imagine Hulk coming in and winning, that would be awesome...
Dude tore it up in the RP, give him the Merc and lets see what happens.

Would love to see Hulk get his podium finally. Merc, do itttt

If only. I'd wager since Merc has the WCC in the bag that they aren't going to risk a whole lot, but maybe I'm wrong.

Oppositely I want to see them put Russell in the seat, he out qualify Bottas keeping his quali streak alive, and his first ever points scoring finish is a win.

Who drives for Grosjean this weekend?

Pietro Fittipaldi will be the fourth member of the Fittipaldi family to race in F1 - the first since Christian Fittipaldi at the 1994 Australian Grand Prix. #F1
This is for HAAS this weekend...

I think when F1 made the exception he became eligible. If not he will get the km's needed during testing.

Italian media is reporting that Merc wants Russell and it's up to Williams. We'd finally get our wish of seeing Russell in a real car.

Whoever gets that seat is in for the ride of his life. Plus, there's no guarantee that Hamilton will be ready for Abu Dhabi. And ... he's not under contract for next year. Perhaps Merc would let two different drivers to stir the pot?

What a shitty, no win situation for bottas!
Williams doesn't have anything to do with this decision. Just whatever toto wants. (Imo)
I love this shake up.

Bottas has a good chance for pole and a win. George is a hell of a driver and all, but it would still be an unfamiliar car.
Like someone said, it gets to put the theory of 'anyone could win in that car' to the test.

I think it all comes down to George's contract details and/or William's willingness to play ball
George is the heir apparent for Lewis's seat... William's also has Jack Aiken waiting in the wings, and he has his F1 Super License if Merc does go with G.Russ
I honestly think its Stoffel's ride this weekend... just a gut feeling, but its just easier on everybody... plus he's won in Formula E this year and finished #2 overall for Merc
That being said, who the hell knows... this is all pure speculation as Stoffel and Jack will both plan to be at the track this weekend

So I'm pretty much brand new to following F1 thanks to my recent addiction to Motorsport Manager, but I've read up a little bit on Haas' F1 tenure. Is there any result that would keep them in the F1 game or is it just a formality that they'll eventually leave at this point?

Short answer: HAAS signed the Concorde Agreement, which says they have committed until at least 2025
Long answer: the new rules changes that are being gradually put in place over the next few years (mainly spending cap and tech development allotment) are designed to give bottom feeder teams a greater leg up on the competition
I.E. there is development scale based on the previous years performance which gives bottom feeder teams more development time, resources and upgrades per season over top tier teams, while spending will be progressively capped lower and lower each season
HAAS, Williams, Alfa Romeo, etc. are all banking that this will help even the field over a few years
Now add that HAAS has just signed a new driver (Nikita Mazepin),whose father is a Russian billionaire, to race for them next year and you can see that they have legitimate potential for success
I would imagine they look at how Renault has greatly improved over the past 2 seasons and want to copy that
Now add in the new car for 2022... how much work have they put into that?? No one really knows
So, to sum it all up, for a team that hasn't had a single podium, has agreed to stay in the sport until at least 2025, has massive financial backing and rules changes on their side, and potentially has future stars in their stable... They have a MASSIVE opportunity to change things around and finally have some success in the sport
I guess it all depends on how the next 4 years develop... I can tell you that Gene Haas absolutely hates losing and cant stand where his program is... Realistically, if HAAS were to develop into a team that is top of the midfield, I believe they would stay after 2025

George Russell confirmed to drive for Mercedes this weekend.
And not to bury the lede, but Mick Schumacher has been officially announced to drive for Haas next season.
