I never bought into the strict Keto diet. There are only three basic foods the world over: carbs, protein, fat. You need all three in the right proportions. But the human body wasn't made for consuming the huge amounts of carbs that the average person ingests daily. Hundreds of years ago, humans expended a lot of energy hunting, farming, etc to put food on the table. Now, we can simply walk 10 feet to the fridge. Your liver will then convert the carbs to fat faster than LSU scored touchdowns last season.
I did lose a lot of weight simply going into a reasonable low carb diet (40 grams daily) and moderate exercise. There is no research on the long term consequence of no carbs and high fat. I eat a lot of chicken, fish, eggs, but moderate amounts of red meat, pork. butter, cheese. Lots of fruits and veggies but not as much starchy vegetables. Example: instead of an entire baked potato, I'll do half.
I'm well into my 50s and consider myself in very good shape for my age. It takes 10 days to two weeks to break from the sugar/starch cravings. I have no desire for sweets. I highly encourage you middle-aged guys struggling with your wieght to my reasonable approach. If I can do it, anyone can.

I'm super healthy, 5'11" 157-168# and I don't take any medications and last time I had blood work done everything came back good. I just shid a lot and can't figure out why. I'm actually on the shitter right now.

Yeah. We're really cheap grocery shoppers. We buy organic, which is more expensive but we penny pinch in how we buy, where we buy and what we buy. We shop at three different stores for different things because of price and we try to buy in bulk and we always look at price per ounce.
How much is your monthly grocery bill and for how many people?

If I can get my boat squared away I can start pulling seafood myself and I'd like to get into hunting. We've talked about putting our name on a cow or two at a ranch but we haven't done the numbers on it yet. We're going to do chickens eventually because we have room for that at our own property and that would save us a lot on our grocery bill.

$800 for a family of 6 is actually pretty damn good with the diet you described. We're at anywhere from $400 to $600 a month for a family of four. Two kids under five and two adults. But if I was to eat like you ours would probably be $800 or more a month because we only eat organic at home.

Agree with everything in your post, but I'll point out that most strict Keto diets call for around 20g of carbs per day, not no carbs. Your body does need carbs to survive.
Prior to starting my lazy Keto diet, I tracked my carbs for a week. I was eating close to 130g of carbs a day, some days a lot more. My goal has been around 40-50 carbs per day since starting. I feel a ton better and have more energy during the day.

Now, you have all the processed shite (stuff you buy in boxes and/or in the middle of the grocery store) that has tons of added sugar, high fructose corn syrup, sodium, etc. All to make it taste good. But that's where people get fat.
That's why it's always said that if you truly want to eat healthier, buy stuff that's on the edges of the store (vegetables, meat, seafood, poultry, dairy products, eggs, etc.) and stay out the middle.
Bottomline, is you have to keep it realistic. You can't set yourself up on some crazy arse diet and expect to do that for the rest of your life. You have to make a lifestyle change, and look at it as a food eating plan change. People get bogged down in the word "diet" itself, and immediately draw negative connection to it because it symbolizes "oh shite I can't enjoy food anymore". Don't look at it that way. Look at it as a diet simply being a food plan, and not a death sentence.

Exactly...why? Organic is a fricking scam. If you want to eat healthier, plant a garden. But organic vs non organic..... essentially the same macro and micro nutrition.
Grass fed and free range meat I get, same with free range eggs and grass fed cheese, Wild fish etc. I get it because be it actually does change the profiles of the macros and micros.
Agreed about the processed crap, it's why people do so well on restriction diets liek the whole 30, they find out about food sensitivities.
The future is blood work and other details that show sensitivities to certain foods, which foods you genetics work best with etc as mentioned in page 11

If you aren’t buying from a local, reputable farm, you’re likely paying 30% more for a fancy sticker. Many organic farmers are frauds (especially on imported produce), organic traders are even worse.

Keto works because eliminating most sources of carbs and then eating the foods you're forced to replace them with results in lower calories. I've been around a lot of people that completely fail at keto. You still have to eat reasonably. Any other minor weight loss benefit that is gained from keto is simply not worth it for the average American to attempt it. It's just too drastic of a dietary change for most people to stick with. When it comes to weight loss, it's not about what is best, it's about making a lifestyle change that you are willing to accept and continue forever.
If the average american changed nothing in their diet other than replacing a single meal per day with a chicken breast and vegetables, they would lose 10%+ of their body weight in 2-3 months.

Don't doubt you're right, at all. It's always been a concern of mine. Always joke with my wife that it's probably bullshite but it's better than nothing. I'd rather buy one with the label that might be worth something than one without a label that means they could have grown it anyway they wanted.

This is the way to go. It's pretty easy to cut your daily carb intake to 40-50g by cutting out most shitty/processed foods. I really don't eat many starches these days. Aside from a cheat day once a week (Raising Cain's), I avoid bread, potatoes, etc. I also think the high fat component of Keto is particularly moronic because it leads to a host of other problems.
Nuts are a good replacement if you are used to eating chips or whatever for snacks.
