You certainly shed the pounds and get ripped with Keto but the colorectal cancer is a bitch.

Find me a RCT with a total relative risk (RR) of over 3 to peak my interest on colorectal cancer and meat.

I'll wait.

I've forgotten more on diet research than you've read your entire life.

I had the most horrific blood work ever...Been on keto diet, in some form or fashion (gram wise) since August 2018. First bloodwork drawn after 2months keto was the best blood work I’ve had in over 20years. This was the first round. I had 3 diagnosis and 5 daily meds. Fast forward to today...3rd bloodwork pulled, all on Keto...best bloodwork I’ve had...my kidney and liver functions are fine as well. All of my numbers are great and while my doctor was not excited about the diet, his opinion has definately changed. Your dad can swap over to a more clean keto...but I did it dirty keto and continue to.

You do realize you could have had the same result without keto and simply being more discipline to a healthy lifestyle including exercise, eating less processed and more Whole Foods, alcohol consumption reduction, drinking more water, drinking/eating less sugar, etc ?

So doing all the stuff you do on keto will give you the same results as keto? Amazing info

It depends on what kind of fats you're consuming.

Ideally, you want to prioritize monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats - avocados, olive oil, nuts, seeds, fish, etc. When consumed alongside vegetables, lean sources of protein, and certain fruits, you have the makings of an incredibly well balanced and nutritionally rich diet.

Unfortunately, keto for most people involves 5 deep fried eggs every morning, butter, beef and pork fat, cheese, etc. Sure, you're preventing a massive insulin spike, but you're also drowning your body in saturated fats.

You are correct about that. A lifestyle change! Yes. But I am the old, lazy, fat arse guy with no discipline that I hear you guys throw around....I’m good with honesty, too busy supporting and paying attention to others, rather than myself....THIS took me back to high school jean measurements at 49, so...I know it works! My bloodwork is the best in over 20yrs...so while I know there are other means in which to accomplish weight loss and perhaps, more healthier or “traditionally healthier” or accepted diet plan. I believe in result based findings...I find weight loss, healthy blood work and I can actually sprint where I want to go! If I die unexpectedly, you guys can say you were right! I just know it worked and continues to work for me.

I would also encourage some of you, who feel like you know everything there is about diets, to consider the fact that you cannot apply most of your thought processes to keto, as your body’s primary fuel and byproducts change substantially. I believe sugar to be more dangerous than any diet I choose to go on. I’m no longer “keto” as I would call it. I really just eat low carb nowadays...to me, that’s not keto! Keto, to me, is 20g net carbs per day or less, where you develop “ketones” from your body utilizing fats for fuel...I try to stay 100 or better these days. More maintenance than losing...bloodwork this past Thursday yielded same results as past 3, all within normal ranges.

Eggs specifically free range are one of the best sources of fats and protein on the planet.

Beef is also a great fat profile. Saturated fats are not bad for you if your overall fat profile is good.

Uncured bacon from properly raised pigs is almost considered a super food.

Grass fed cheese has a great fat profile

Grass fed butter has a great profile

Stop lumping these in as bad. Quality is the key here. Stop buying the cheap "choice" brand and buy quality meats, cheese and dairy.

Trouble is that it's hard to do plant-based keto. You just can't get the necessary protein and stay under 4gs of carbohydrates/day.

For me being plant-based has a higher priority than being keto or paleo. I need legumes bro.

Who is staying under 4 net g of day? How is that possible? When I was sick I managed 6g for that day! I suppose you could...for one meal maybe....

Biggest change for me was HOW I think about food...If you pay attention to your body, eat slower and recognize satiation and stopping. I eat for fuel now, not as a part of my culture or as a “main event”...much to the dismay of those who took part in said cooking/eating....

There are only three basic foods the world over: carbs, protein, fat. You need all three in the right proportions

Not true at all. Fiber is a carbohydrate.

Additionally, for sugars, your body metabolized glucose and fructose completely differently as well.

quote:

Unlike glucose, which is directly metabolized widely in the body, fructose is almost entirely metabolized in the liver in humans, where it is directed toward replenishment of liver glycogen and triglyceride synthesis.

That's why it's important to limit additives that contain simple sugars like high fructose corn syrup and table sugar.

Not all fats are created equal either.

eta: Also, the science saying that you have to eat your 3 meals a day has been shredded. Skipping a meal never hurt someone with a healthy metabolism. Most Americans could do with a few skipped meals.

Interesting information...so you say fiber is a carbohydrate? For my own education...if it’s considered a carb, why do you subtract fiber from carbs to give you net carbs? I assume it’s the “type” of carb?

It's a non-digestible carbohydrate and isn't converted to sugars by your body.

I’d argue that...my urine stinks more than normal, but rarely do I pee on people or mist it like lavender oil so IDGAF about that...I don’t have a cooter, so no factual info to pull from. I think most people assume things...when you are diabetic and go into keto acidosis from hyperglycemia...you will have sickly sweet breathe, excessive urination but at the levels necessary for weight loss, this does not occur..
