Seems like a lot of people on here play the autism lottery and have kids in their late 30s/40s

I used to think they were crazy, but now that I'm actually hitting middle aged, I'm realizing how young it actually can be. 48 in good health and finished with child rearing? That would be nice.
My youngest kid should be out of the house by the time I'm 47 or so. I'm sure she'll still be on the payroll a few years past that though.

We’re having the same conversations. Wife and I had first kid at 24, second at 27. Turn 29 this year. Have a boy and a girl. We love the balance of 2 as you can always make it a 1 kid to 1 parent ratio, but we like the idea of 3 kids as they grow older, especially if they stay close into adulthood.
That said, the whole have kids out of the house by late 40’s thing is great. My parents were that way. They grinded when we were kids, but are young enough to enjoy the fruits of their labor now at a relatively energetic and healthy age.

Had my third at 35. Married at 24, had a few years to get to know each other as a married couple. First kid at 29, second at 32. Spacing worked out well.

Was 42 when I had my last. He finished college when I started looking at retirement.

Is 38 really “super old” for a woman to have a kid. Sure, past her prime but “super old”?
Pregnancies which occur when the mother is age 35 or older are termed geriatric pregnancies.
But dude, "past her prime?" That's just rude.

Idea of being 46 and an empty nester is awesome to me.
We emptied the nest at 44. It's the greatest thing ever. Having kids early is hard, but the payoff is worth it IMO.

Yea, I worry about people like you having kids but it has nothing to do with your age.

I was 30 when we had our last child. That was in 2001. I'm glad we had children at an early age, started at 22, #2 at 26 and #3 at 30. All my children will be out of college before I'm 55.
#3 was a twin that her twin was lost in a miscarriage while we were at Disney when wife was 2 to 3 month pregnant(hadn't been on any rides) Didn't know she was a twin until we found out wife still was with child a week later when we were back home and at wife's Dr.
