It’s the beginning of a new year and a whole new decade – meaning we’re now, somehow, 20 years into the 21st Century. It’s already been a transformative era for cinema, from the advent of digital photography, to the democratisation of filmmaking technology, to the rise of online streaming; two decades that saw a superhero blockbuster boom, increased distribution for international movies, and the arrival of vital, diverse new filmmaking voices.

10. Lost In Translation (2003)

9. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)

8. Get Out (2017)

7. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

6. The Social Network (2010)

5. Moonlight (2016)

4. Inception (2010)

3. The Dark Knight (2008)

2. The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001)

1. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Rest of the list

I did not care as much for Infinity War and my history on that score is well known and infamous on this board. Endgame, at least in my opinion, was the better movie/payoff.

The MCU should have taken a bow after that but instead they are going to bleed it dry.

Look, I like Lost in Translation. I think it is even a great film.

But, greater than No Country?

How that isn't everyone's #1 movie of the last 20 years is beyond me.

The top 3 are cool, but none of the rest are deserving of the top ten when movies like No Country, There Will Be Blood, and The Act of Killing exists. I'm also partial to The Master for some reason or another.

Last thing, Memento >>> Inception

I know all of these lists are going to be extremely subjective. I still think The Prestige is criminally low at #66.

I loved Infinity War, but not sure it is a top 10 greatest movie of the 21st century. Of course, I don't know their criteria (internal criteria). Maybe they thought it was based on the culmination of the MCU franchise, and it was better than Endgame so it got the nod?

Maybe because in Infinity War they didn't feel the need to make Thor fat?

This was a good film, but in no way should ever be ranked ahead of Return of the King.

ETA: Return of the King is at 43, ranked 20 or so places behind such masterpieces as Into the Spiderverse...

frick this list.

No Country and There Will Be Blood, not only outside of the Top Ten, but behind Infinity War.

Ex Machina should be in the top 10 and it didn't even make the top 20?

Nothing by Taylor Sheridan in the top 20?

Maybe because I am older but this list tells me the overall quality of movies this century is pitiful.

I don't frequent this board much but after reading the comments, do people really believe Mad Max is the best movie of the last 20 years? I liked it but I just don't think it was anything near special as a movie.

Some that come to mind [in no particular order]: No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Children of Men, The Departed, The Social Network, Inception, Ex Machina, Whiplash, Zero Dark Thirty, Inglourious Basterds

When you start here, it is hard to take seriously anything on the list.

It is a MILDLY entertaining film that MIGHT have a place in the lower half of a Top 100 list.

Gladiator, Up, and Coco all should be much lower. Was Toy Story 3 and Finding Nemo not on the list? Also, I'm surprised with the popularity that none of the Harry Potter movies made the list unless I overlooked it. As for adult movies like Gladiator, I wish Donnie Darko was lower as well.
