I really dont see any raising canes backlash here. I was at the first location on opening night way back when. It was a solid meal. But I always felt like they copied off of Baileys Chicken fingers that were around before them and had the exact same menu. But I give them credit for their marketing and ability to franchise.

Now Walk-Ons has a great location and thats about the only good thing I can say about the place. Appetizers are decent but the food is not great by any means.

I have no problems with either place being successful. I eat at Canes a few times a month, but I don't care much for the food at Walks-On's.

I have met Brandon a few times and according to my friends that know him, he is a hell of a nice guy. He supports LSU and such, so I like to go by for a beer sometimes on game days.

I like raising cane's.

As for walkon's, I like Brandon just fine (he's another fellow bear, BTW). The food is simply mediocre.

i suppose a good bit, but i don't know. I don't know any of the owners.

Walk-on's has a great location and patio, so i'll go in for the convenience. I treat it as a bar, and expect the food to suck....so i guess it works for me.

As for Cane's, i don't care for the place at all. But, french fries and chicken fingers in general are among my least favorite foods.

We all know the only reason those boys got rich is from rich daddies/relatives who basically set them up to succeed. No talent involved at all.

Honestly, I never thought about that once, and they are both probably older than me.

The one time I ate at Walk On's, I thought it was not good.

And thickly batter chicken just doesnt get me excited. Unless you are in college and on a budget or drunk, I am baffled how anyone raves about this place...its not terrible but its just a battered and fried piece of chicken.

Walk-Ons USED to be really good when it first opened... but the food quality has slowly declined since then.

Plus, I've known 3 or 4 girls who have worked there over the years and have had miserable experiences with management.

Good question. I've never had a problem with the food at Walk Ons. I never thought it was spectacular either but I don't expect it to be because it's not billed as some high class joint. I'd go there on occasion because it was close to my apartment. I thought their crawfish etoufee could stack up against any other in town.

yeah .. i knew that .. but he's one of those daddy's money other-side-of-the-river kids .. not a good old hard nosed st. aloyisius, STM, OLOM, or sacred heart kid ..

yeah .. i was just throwing it out there for discussion .. at one time raising canes was getting ripped pretty good on the OT .. it just seems that the criteria for walk-on's to gain TD.com approval is a lot higher than any other place ... it seems like the chimes has some sort of permanent hall pass around here and i have never really thought that the chimes was all that great outside of an awesome draft beer selection ..

I'm glad these guys are finding success, expanding and creating jobs.

Brandon Landry is a friend of a friend. I don't know him well at all but he has always seemed like a decent enough guy to me.

I've met Warner only once. I can't really say much good or bad about him.

Todd Graves- I've never heard anyone with a bad thing to say about him.

Now the other founder of Canes who sold out to Graves a long time ago is kind of a douche.

Wow!!! Intersting discussion.
I have known Brandon and Jack since they started the place. I use to hang out with while they we're still playing ball. We had mutual friends so we would see each other out and play a little golf together. Both Brandon and Jack are very nice guys. I do believe that a lot of people in this town are jealous of their success. However, I think Baton Rouge was ready for a place like Walk On's and they were in the right place at the right time. You can't fault them for that.

As for Canes. I love that place, great hangover cure. The only problem I have is that it is not an original idea like everyone thinks it is. Todd worked for a place called Guthries in Athens, GA. Guthries was started in 1969 and the only thing they serve is chicken fingers, fries, toast, slaw and a special sauce which is exactly like canes.
But, once again you can't fault him for marketing it better than Guthries and doing what he has done. Guthries could have done the same thing

yeah .. that's the new hot discussion now -- that graves ripped off the idea from guthries .. but then again, al copeland ripped the fried chicken idea off from colonel sanders too and we all know how that turned out ... walk-on's isn't exactly a ground breaking idea either .. pretty much every SEC city has something to this effect relatively close to campus ... from what i have heard from different people close to either one of them, the only thing that chaps them is that they've gotten a little big headed and have convinced themselves that they have the midas touch .. both apparently think that they just invented the wheel or something ..

There's also Abner's and Zaxby's in addition to Guthrie's and the defunct Bailey's, but he thought of it while fishing in Alaska right?

i thought he went to the bank with his idea before that and was told he needed a significant commitment of his own money for them to even consider it .. so he went and got a job on a commercial boat in alaska or something ...

the story of landry and warner going from bank to bank is a lot less true than anything graves has told .. daddy landry gave brandon the money from day one and co-signed an assload of shite for their downtown ventures too ..

just like Burger King ripped of Mcdonalds, Wendys ripped off BK, Rally's ripped of Wendys, etc. etc.
Guthries didn't have the patent on chicken finger joints. Improving on someone else's idea is the American way.
