The battery packs will last just fine. 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year, for 18 years comes to 216,000 to 270,000 miles. Try that with an air filter, spark plug, oil filter, water pump, head gasket, or any of a zillion other parts on an Internal Combination Engine (ICE) that are designed to be replaced on a regular basis.

This is a matter of relative durability. The weakest points of any vehicle, regardless of its power source, remain the wear points between moving parts that vibrate, oscillate, revolve, or rotate as well as those points that prevent the loss of vital fluids used to facilitate cooling of components.

There are more of those weak points on an internal combustion engine powered vehicle than an electric vehicle -- by design -- not just by default.

GM, Ford, and Toyota all have received significantly more subsidy than Tesla.

If you drive a lot for work a car is way more comfortable than a small SUV or truck. I know from experience. Unless youre tall, then it probably sucks

Who wouldn’t? It’s not like you’re talking about a Fiat 500 or anything questionable. If you’re asking if people would buy one, that’s another question.

Here I disagree. The interior of Tesla’s are incredibly lackluster and falling behind the competition.

Were I in the market for a subcompact and did not make any long trips, or drive on muddy gravel roads, or tow anything I would buy one but alas they do not build a vehicle to suit me yet.

Does taking a ton of short trips affect the life of the battery? I live 5 miles from work, and I'm on drop off duty which is 1 mile from the house. So everyday I have at least 5 trips where I'm in the car less than 15 minutes.

If I wanted an EV, I would get the Tesla X or S if I could verify that the extreme winters in this area don’t destroy their batteries too quickly.

I am more likely to buy a Grand Cherokee, Tahoe, or Yukon than a Tesla though. My company gets a discount with BMW so maybe I will look at the X5.
