I really liked Season 1 and Season 2, but it has really quickly devolved in some respects into too much of a slapstick, sit-com type of situation. The writing early on was brilliant, but it is not as smart and serious as it started out to be.

I don't find her stand-up bits very funny. Kinda lame to be honest. But the show is good. She's likable, as are many other characters and the story is good..

I tried to explain this in an earlier post about MM. I got a lot of downvotes. But yeah, we listen to the bits and the audience hated her at first but over time she turned them. Fast forward and they laugh uproariously. But it's all acting and we know it. The stuff may make me smile but not laugh. But I really like the show but not the staged comedy. Rather I like the comedy within the plot.

Maybe. I just have to imagine the routines are funny. And at the time Lenny Bruce was as raw and coarse as comedy could be and is today. He was arrested repeatedly in real life for his work. And he died of a drug overdose just like people do today.
In defense of the writers, writing material that is a funny stand up act has to be a challenge.
