1. Paul Jaboulet Aine Ventoux 2018 - Greanache and Syrah blend. Tastes like something that should cost at least $50;

Unsure of Availability but Domaine de Boissan Ventoux 2018 is also quite good. 80/20 Grenache/Syrah and around $15 I think

Tons of Cotes du Rhône under $20 that I would buy over anything OP listed.

If some of these are sold out and moving on to the next year, could you make this thread earlier in the year, like, say June?

Always love this thread!

I already enjoy the Bogle Petite Sirah every year, but picked up a couple of the 2016 tonight. I've never had the 2015 Phantom, so I got that too.

There's a small wine shop in NO that carries the 2 I listed, and is the only place I can find them. The red is $10, and the white goes for $9. Outstanding values. Makes it hard for me to buy anything else.
Again, many thanks for the annual list.

Yes, but most don't like old world stuff. Big cabs and petite sirah driven blends are what everyone loves.

Phantom is basically 50/50 petite sirah and zin and 90+ rated for $16. It's solid. Bogle also has a $25 cab called Juggernaut that is all hillside fruit and pretty damn good.

As for me and old world stuff, under $20, I'm drinking:

Argiano Non Confunditur - 2016 is great, and the 2017 is turning out to be more of the same. Both 93 points, Tuscan that's predominantly cab with merlot, syrah, and sangiovese so very approachable for people who haven't had much old world stuff. $18-20

Capezzana Barco Reale di Carmignano - 2015 - classic Carmigano blend of mostly sangiovese with cab, canaiolo, and cab franc. $15

These last 2 are right over $20, but are fantastic.

Chateau Larose-Trintaudon Haut Medoc - 2015 - 48/45 merlot/cab with the rest being cab franc. Damn strong for $21

Chateau Greysac Medoc - 2014 - I love Bordeaux with a lot of merlot so at 68%, this is one of my favorites for the price. 29% cab, 3% cab franc, and 3% Petit verdot make it a really well balanced blend. $23-24

I had no idea that was Bogle! I've found it for 17.99 and 19.99 lately. Never seen it that expensive!

I´ll never understand this, considering yáll are primarily NO people.

I find the new world stuff to be heavy handed (i.e. Italian style). Syrupy or brothy, and hard on the system (your body).

Oh well.

Price may be going down as it starts to hit broad market. It's only been in HEB and Kroger here and slowly rolling out. Going into whole foods this month/next month.

I lean towards Italian/Tuscan because sangiovese is my favorite grape.

Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva - 2015 - $21 - 90% sangiovese. 94-96 point rated. Really great bottle.

Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva - 2015 - another 90% sangiovese. $25 max, but you should be able to find it closer to $20.

Argiano Brunello di Montalcino - 2013 - $55 - current vintage is 2014, which is still great, but the 2013 is incredible. One of my absolute favorite wines.

Chateau Rollan de By Medoc - 2011 - $25 - 70% merlot and 10% each of cab, cab franc, and petit verdot. Just a really solid wine.

For some new world:

Meyer Family - Spitfire and Fluffy Billows - 2015 - $52-55 - Spitfire is 91/7/2 cab/merlot/cab franc and Fluffy Billows is 100% cab. Some may recognize the Meyer name as they were the founders of Silver Oak. These are 2 of my favorite California cabs for the price. If you're in the DFW area, Central market has been running a 1/2 special on it so they're $25.

Ridge Three Valleys $30, Geyserville, or Lytton Springs $40 - 2017 - You won't typically find older vintages as they don't produce too much each year, so just stick with current. All are around 70% zinfandel blended with different varietals. Ridge, along Heitz, and Stags' Leap Wine Cellars, is what put Napa solidly into the global wine game in the Judgment of Paris with their Monte Bello cab (about $350 ), and their blends are delicious as well. Really cool winery. They're 100% sustainable and practice "pre industrial winemaking" meaning they make wine the way wine was made pre prohibition when it wasn't so mass produced. Native yeasts for fermentation, malo occurs naturally, etc.

Thanks. I joined the Ridge collector list so I can hopefully get MB for the member price in like 3 years

No real risk anyway considering I enjoy their estate cab and merlot

If you were introducing someone to Brunello would that Argiano (2014) be a good option for immediate drinking?

I love all their stuff. We walked into their Lytton Springs location and tasted through almost everything. Really cool spot and the people were awesome.

The older the better for Brunello, but that 2014 is drinking fine right now. Decant for a bit and drink.
