A nice watch is something you can wear every day for the rest of your life. I see no prob dropping a few thousand
Women drop close to that on multiple fricking purses

Just curious for the OT. I always told myself I’ll get a nice watch when I make more $, but the more I make the less affordable the watch feels. How much did you make when you committed to a luxury watch?
Depends on what you use it for. I'll probably wait until I hit six digits, but I do want to get a couple of watches. They look nice, are timeless (heh), and make good family heirlooms of sorts.

If you are even questioning financing a watch... you don't need to be buying anything but a timex.

I bought a TAG, don't know the name of it, but it has the diver's helmet on the back, in Cabo about 15 years ago, that is the toughest watch I've ever seen, I never take it off and it keeps perfect time, don't know what it retails for in the states but I think I paid about $6-700 for it

Louisiana and Texas are full of these people, except maybe more like 500k for the house
The numbers don’t add up
A lot of time the house is even less than that.
I see people all the time that are spending upwards of 100k combined on their vehicles, and living in a 300k house. It's weird to me, because I would much rather have a more expensive house, than vehicles
To the OP, how much you make is irrelevant, as stated earlier, it's about how much you have (basically how much you spend). I have a >1k watch, but I also saved what I give myself for discretionary spending for months before I pulled the trigger.
Don't finance jewelry, that is asinine.

I'm not much into pretty boy/metrosexual shite like that, actually the old lady bought it for me, but that's been a great watch, and nice looking too, a watch is a tool for me and I'm required to have one for work so, tax deductible

Middle class Southerners’ desire to look like classy, debutant types is amusing to me

So you suggest I don’t finance it even if the rates are good?
I have a Casio Calculator Watch that was like $15, maybe you should get one too.

nice watches are not a pretty boy/metrosexual thing at all

My wife just bought her second Rolex. It's a nice watch to add to her collection. But she never pays full retail price for her jewelry. Estates sales, pawn shops and discount stores/websites are where it's at. Personally, I don't have the urge to buy a pricey watch. I might if I ever get Rolex Daytona money.

Check out the urban gentry on YouTube. Tristano does a great job of sharing his love for all things horological.
I enjoy my Casio Duro I bought for under $50 immensely by pairing it with different straps, etc. it is actually famous for being worn by Bill Gates. Your focus is off, a watch is enjoyed not by the dollar amount attached to it but by how much you actually like the timepiece. I have a small collection of ecomically piece that I love and it enriches my daily life.

Do you want it?
Can you afford it?
Do you value it over other things you could spend that money on?
If yes, get it and dont worry about other opinions.

I have several Seiko and Orient mechanical watches and I'd suggest anyone looking to eventually buy a true luxury mechanical watch start with something well under $100 first. My two Seiko 5 beaters were less than $50 and I wear them doing all kinds of construction, yard work, welding, and carpentry projects and they are still keeping great time. You want something you are actually going to enjoy wearing and not worry about putting some scratches in it.

used to wear those for work, they keep good time but I never got more than a few months out of them before the straps would break
