Television shows with the best use of popular song

I don't know why, but I always thought The OC was about the best I remember at really using pop songs and non score music to set a tone of the show. It drug you emotionally into the episode.
The Sopranos was also incredible at this, but in far deeper and more sophisticated and varying level than the OC.

The Shield had some pretty good uses.
Two that immediately come to mind are Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins and Overcome by Live, which capped off some pretty emotional episodes.

The Wonder Years and The Goldbergs are 1 and 2.

Holy shite, forgot about Wonder Years.
A huge mainstream popular classic song combined with 8mm home movies.
Yeah...I'd agree, they used a popular song to great effect.
There's a difference I guess between using an already popular song and the song becoming popular because of the TV show (Miami Vice instrumental.)

I have never seen a show use music as well as Scrubs.
Especially their use of "How to Save a life" and "hallelujah"
Though not a well known song, their use of David Gray's "Please forgive me" in the first episode was very well done for it's time.
