The concept is fine. Calling it "Friendsgiving" is stupid but that's what people call it so whatevs
It makes tons of sense for younger people who are in cities away from their families to have a fake Thanksgiving with their friends before/after doing Thanksgiving with their families (out of town). Or, alternatively, when they come into town for family Thanksgiving, to have it with their friends since people are all gathered back together in town again.
Now, 15 and 16 year olds who hang out at school everyday doing it sounds dumb as hell.
Exactly. This has been around since I was in College.
I am from BR and often invited LSU friends to our house when they couldn't make it home for the holiday.
That carried over into years after college in big cities with co-workers and new friends.
Baton Rouge has a bunch of groups of young engineers from the surrounding plants who do this very thing. It's pretty cool way make the most of holidays away from family when you're in your 20s.

But I've seen people just getting together to drink and calling it "Friendsgiving".
Those people are lame.
Half the fun of it is to recreate the huge feats from your childhood without any help from your parents.

this is what ours was...friends who were away from their families for Thanksgiving.

Its fun. I'm 29 and most of my friends, even the married ones with kids, are not yet at "hosting" status in their families since their parents tend to do that. Its a fun chance to host your own adult event.

I thought it just meant people like me and my SO, who won't be going to see any family will be partying with friends, instead. Less traditional, more fun.

Well for your average OT'er the closest thing to "friendsgiving" is posting on the lunch thread.

This is all I’m saying, we get together with friends on multiple occasions throughout the year. This year is honestly the first time I’ve heard the term “Friendsgiving”. It just seems silly to me, though I completely agree with the idea of the get together.

Exactly. I don't see how you can complain about a friends' Thanksgiving, yet happily attend numerous Christmas/New Year parties. Or hell, any kind of themed party. Why is friends' Thanksgiving being picked on?
Consider the average OT poster either doesn't understand common sense logic like this or isn't invited to any of those parties.

What’s the deal with any holiday if that is your thought process ?
People are fricking weird

We usually do a Friendsgiving and watch "Love Actually" - about midway through the movie, it all turns out to be a Swinger's Orgy - It's fricking phenomenal!

Wife's friend is having one on Saturday, but said no kids, which is fine with me because I didn't want to go. I would rather be on toddler duty.

Exactly.
I’m 29 and have been hosting Friendsgiving for years. My mom takes care of thanksgiving and I wouldn’t ever take that away from her because she too loves it.
This year she mentioned in passing that she didn’t feel up to doing the usual thanksgiving so guess what, mom and dad are coming to Friendsgiving

Our group of friends are getting together Thanksgiving night to watch the Saints after we all eat with our families that day. We hang out all the time. This isn't any different than those times, but I'd assume some folks would call this "Friendsgiving" ?
This will be my house Thursday night. Our regular football group.

The term isn’t new at all. But it certainly has blown up recently.

Thanksgiving doesn't occur "on multiple occasions throughout the year."
It's a pot luck party around Thanksgiving time during which friends congregate and eat holiday dishes, sides, and deserts. Someone along the way thought they were cute, named it Friendsgiving, and it caught on.
It's really nothing anyone should be so upset about, yet here we are.

Why are some of yall hating on Friendsgiving? I like to eat and friend with my friends, why is that so bad? Who cares if it is documented on social media?
Although we are all busy turn thanksgiving season so we do a Friendsmas. I am sure the OT hates that as well.
