One thing to keep in mind.

The state of alabama has the most prolific college football television viewership in the nation and it’s really not close.
Once bama is out of it, they lose millions of viewers

I don’t disagree. They just don’t control their own destiny any more. They can win out and still end up on the outside

Kirk including that winning percentage of opponents tells you he won’t support them moving up after conference championship weekend.

If you don’t think it’s an unfair advantage to let one of the 4 playoff teams play one less game than everyone else by sitting out their conference championship, then you’re a fool. It should be a requirement to go to the playoffs.

This is as oversimplisitic as saying Bama should be in because it's only loss is to the #1 team.

Want Bama in.

Beating them again is crucial this year.

Hell, I'd be happy if, after we beat them in the playoffs again, the pollsters STILL gave them #2 and we beat them a third time in the Championship!

So there.

Don’t get where the “he hates LSU” narrative is.

To an LSU fan their are two types of announcers/commentators/talking-heads

1) LSU homers (ott, Hanny, jordy, t-bob,etc)
2) Everyone else hates LSU bc they may give compliments to teams not named LSU.

Paul said yesterday that if the playoffs were today Bama gets in. but as other teams start winning as the season goes along, Bama will most likely drop.

I don't think the committee will choose Bama over any one-loss conference champion. LSU, Clemson, and OSU/Minn are in. That leaves either Oregon or OU (for the fourth spot. Both of those teams would have to lose again for Bama to have a shot. If Georgia bests us in the SECCG, both of us are in. Bama's road to the playoffs is extremely narrow.

If we lose the SECCG to UGA, you will see the narrative shift again, this time lobbying to have Bama go instead of us. It sounds crazy, but some will say that is losing the last game should be enough to have them jump us. They invalidated our win in 2011 and they’re trying to do it again. I know that many LSU fans would love to beat them again, as revenge for 1/9/12, but we’re also taking the big risk that they will win. Frankly, they don’t deserve another shot at us. If the roles were reversed, you would not see the media trying so hard to get us in. We played by the rules in 2011 and got fricked. It shouldn’t be happening again. The game on Saturday should mean something, but if Bama gets in, it won’t mean shite.

They shouldn’t be deserving of there are other undefeated teams at the end of the year!!! A 1 loss team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs if there are still undefeated teams

I think you have to take 1 loss conference champs over Bama too. Bama lost at home FFS.

I remember delusional LSU fans saying this in 2011 as well.

They don't deserve it. They lost, at home. Game over.

We will be at a massive disadvantage in a rematch as Alabama would have a huge psychological edge.

Teams that are in the power five and do not win the division to say nothing about the conference championship should not be in the playoff. Essentially each conference game is just about an elimination game.

I do care at all about the PAC 12 or BIG 12 or ACC. The SEC and Big Ten are better and deeper. Clearly better and deeper than the ACC.

Having said that is these guys are actually power five conferences...they are... then how do you keep two of them out for a team that does not win the division

Conference champ game loser has a better argument.

Remember the last two top ten teams that Bama played. Have torched them for more than 40 points.

Bama was not deserving in 2011. They were not worthy in 2017.

They were ABSOLUTELY deserving in 2011. LSU and Bama were clearly the two best teams in football, and Bama proved, what most independent observers suspected, that they were the best of the two.

No way this 2019 Bama team deserves a two team playoff, but four teams? Right now I’d say no, and I think the committee will do all they can to keep them out, but if they win out it would be hard to argue against them, because there won’t be four other teams left standing.

It’s not a question of undefeated vs 1-loss. It’s a question of 1-loss Power 5 Champ vs 1-loss “better team” according to the “eye test”!

Alabama is a much better team than Utah, but the question is, “If Utah wins the PAC 12 should they get in ahead of another 1-loss team who didn’t win their conference, but everyone knows is better (even though they played cupcakes all season)?”

Do you want the 4 BEST teams or the 4 BEST conference champions?? That’s ultimately the question. History has already proven that the selection committee prioritizes the former.

It will be interesting to see how they handle this.

I would have thought that the officiating of the game would have been more one sided, but honestly, they called a good game outside of letting some defensive holding go.

It appears they will be faced with a situation where they can go for immediate gratification with the short term ratings, rewarding a team that did NOT give them a primetime early matchup, or they could set a precedent by rewarding a team that did, in the hopes of encouraging teams to schedule better.

And if they even wanted that to go a step further, it could affect the long term SEC cross divisional games, where LSU gets a boost playing FL (finally something good comes from it), and AL gets penalized playing a weak TN

now the ESPN analytics team suggests it is better go the other route to keep the viewers.

Well, of course it changes!!! ESPN is going to politick for whatever matchup will bring them the most revenue. It’s called a “business”. No one will tune in to watch OSU dismantle Utah or Minnesota, but they will watch LSU vs Alabama. So, naturally they’re going to change their tune like the wind if they think it’ll provide a better game to sell!!

Gotta love Capitalism!!
