NRC website about half way down the page.
F-18 = fluoride 18, a radioactive isotope.
PET doses = radionuclide injected, ingested or inhaled prior to a PET scan.
6000 mCi = enough to frick you right up.
Hope the idiot(s) that stole these do something really, really stupid to themselves like mixing this in a cocktail or two.
quote:
Licensee called [the Mississippi Division of Radiological Health] to report a carjacking of one of its drivers carrying two packages of PET doses. The carjacking occurred at approximately 0315 CDT at a gas station in Jackson, MS. The local law enforcement was notified. The vehicle has still not been recovered."
Stolen sources were F-18. Source 1 had an activity of 6000.627 mCi at 0149 CDT and source 2 had an activity of 1694.932 mCi at 0151 CDT.

What idiot driving radioactive waste doesn’t think to check his fuel gauge prior to picking it up?!
Oh damn better stop for some gas and a tacquito before we get moving!

I’m sure the young scholars will take all precautions

Good. Maybe their stupidity will take them out along with some of their hoodrat friends.

That is unusally high for 1 source to have 6 Ci if they were in fact patient doses.

Why is someone carrying this at 3:15 am?

It’s got a short half-life, if the jeenuses don’t mess with it quickly, they’ll be alright.
The real question is the judgment of the driver to be stopping at a gas station at that time IN JACKSON MISSISSIPPI!

This is definitely how the next Tom Clancy movie starts.

Umm, shouldn’t this have made the news cycle in Jackson? Granted, carjackings are pretty common in Jackson, but shouldn’t the public know? I looked and didn’t see this anywhere - not even JJ???

Possibly 2 vials coming from cyclotron to nuclear pharmacy for them to draw it up into patient doses.
