Orgeron ranks 30th among highest paid coaches in the nation.

20% Less than Willie Taggart
35% Less than Dan Mullen
40% Less than Tom Herman/Gus Malzahn/Kirby Smart
45% Less than Jimbo Fisher/Jim Harbaugh
55% Less than Nick Saban/Dabo Swinney

Humble, team first. Proof is in the pudding.

Well he wasn't exactly going to get a 6-7 million a year contract with his track record

I am extremely supportive and happy with O and team, but this analogy is stretching reality. There are a few names in there making more than they should have gotten at hire, that's for sure.

Willie Taggart really deserves that extra 20%. He’s got the Noles rolling right now.

ETA: I'm not serious he sucks

I mean... that was his market value back then. Has nothing to do with humble or team player. That was what his resume was worth.

Finish this season off and bump it up.

Lol literally just received a raise less than a year ago and was bitching about not getting one two days after being embarrassed by Bama yet again. Plus when hired he had a terrible resume and was never going to get the kind of contract those coaches you listed were. He’s done a good job this season and we should be praising him on his accomplishments but your post is simply sunshine pumping and man crushing just to do it.

I feel like I am overpaid at my job, and I would always ask for more. However, there's a certain amount of value that comes with enjoying what you're doing and where you're doing it. O seems to be enjoying himself. He doesn't cross me as a person that views himself as anything other than a kid from South Louisiana that's making a shite ton of money. He knows that his success will reward him. I don't see him walking into Woodward's office saying "so and so is offering me more, and I will leave if you don't give it to me". But in the famous words of Clinton, whatever you think, you might be wrong.

Everyone is about to get paid on this staff,

Win the natty and they’ll make a boatload.

You're insinuating he was offered more but turned it down.
That's 100% not true.
Come back to me in 2 months. Regardless of if he wins a natty or the SEC, if he finishes 11-1 or better, I bet your team player gets a bump.

Anyone know if he has the Saban clause in his contract saying if he wins a NC he becomes the highest paid coach in America? No one mentioned the $9 mil a year for Harbaugh. Now that's overpaid.

If we are going to be perfectly honest, none of these coaches “DESERVE” the money they are making. They’re football coaches. They don’t cure cancer, save lives or really add any true value to our lives so they should be damn happy they’re being paid the millions they get. Not to mention, their contracts are guaranteed so it’s like winning the lottery for coaching...

Saying that, the market demand is there so they should cash in on what they can, while they can but be thankful. So excuse me for not seeing your point for Coach O being a “team player” when he still gets paid millions to be a football coach. He took a pay cut so he could get his 2nd chance. Let’s see how big of a “team player” he is if he makes it to the playoffs and it’s time to renegotiate that contract.

IMO, he's got to earn his lavish salary just like the rest of em. I think he's doing that now.

Thankfully, we have an AD with a competency level greater than a potato now, so CEO contracts should be handled with bother parties in mind.

How is he the "ultimate team player" simply because he has a relatively low salary? The reason O has that salary is because at the time he was named permanent head coach NO OTHER SCHOOL IN AMERICA was interested in hiring Ed as their HC. His HC market was either LSU or nowhere. If he wanted to be a HC he essentially had to accept what LSU was offering.

O is being paid EXACTLY the amount the market dictates he should be getting paid when one considers that his ONLY market is LSU. Now, could that change after this year and other schools be willing to attempt to outspend LSU and hire Ed away? Maybe. But until that happens there is no reason to significantly increase his salary. Otherwise, LSU would just be unnecessarily bidding against itself

CEO was lucky to get hired and was paid the right amount at the time. This season will get him PAID. You compared him to several people that probably are not comparable. If they offered CEO $10m after this year, you better believe he would take it.

quote:

Willie Taggart

About the most comparable on the list, loosing lifetime record. Did have P5 HC experience.

quote:

Dan Mullen

Won a Miss State and OC for multiple NC teams

quote:

Gus Malzahn

Led team to NC and coordinated another

quote:

Kirby Smart

Led team to NC and coordinated several others

quote:

Tom Herman

Anomaly. Texas is rich and wanted to outbid others.

quote:

Jimbo Fisher

Won a NC and coordinated other

quote:

Jim Harbaugh

Led team to a Superbowl, rebuilt Stanford

quote:

Dabo Swinney

If Ed O wins the SEC Championship, makes it into the playoffs, or both, he probably will get a substantial raise and a contract extension. If he wins a natty, that substantial raise will be even greater.

This is what we were sold on when he was hired.

Say we have a budget of $10/year for coaching salaries. We could either have:

Jimbo (7.5)
Shitty assistants or ones who will leave at the drop of a hat if they get offered another gig (2.5)

or

CEO (4)
Some of the best assistants in the country and won't leave due to money (6)

That extra 3.5 goes a loooooong way. It's what has allowed us to keep Aranda and what will let us to keep Brady.

Orgeron will get paid if he wins the SEC this year. He will get seriously paid if he wins the national championship this year.
