re: Why don't we have turf?

quote:so, in your world the preference of grass over turf equates to the style of offense we run.
I was shocked that many of you expressed a love of the muddy uniforms and a slip sliding away field.
Coach O has brought you to modern offensive football---it seems some of you miss the three yards and a cloud of dust...or in this case mud.
If you like grass you must want Les's offense back?
I don't know what you are doing, but you are doing it wrong.
And my point was we did NOT have a mud hole... that's the design. Soft, yes. Mud, no.

"It is a pantheon of concrete and steel
It is a city that rises defiantly in the delta alongside the father of waters
It is the humidity of autumn evenings that drapes stately oaks and broad magnolias
It is haunted ... and it is loud.
It is Halloween night & Cannon blasts
It is a Louisiana gumbo of humanity that cheers its Tigers to victory & destroys the dreams of invading foes
Chance of rain is ... never!
It is the cathedral of college football & worship happens here
When the sun finds its home in the western sky it is a field of glory for sure ...
But much more than that it is a sacred place
And it is Saturday night in Death Valley"
Turf would not fit in this description at all.

Ask an athlete thats played on turf in the heat.Ask an athlete what it feels like to fall on a turf field compared to natural grass.I went to a class this year that covered this very subject. Turf is not as good, but ofcourse there are exceptions as in most things.

quote:This hasn't been the case in 20 years. Field Turf has a very nice "give" to it now and is more consistent than grass. It also doesn't get torn up like Saturday.
If we have Turf we have far more injuries yesterday. Turf doesn't allow your foot to slip out from under it and therefore something else (inside your leg) has to give). Football and baseball are just meant to be played on grass. High School stadiums use turf because it's easy to maintain. It's an outdoor carpet.

Turf is shite. C’mon man.

You were shocked that an outdoor stadium has a grass field?

Because Tiger Stadium is made for real football...

Les Miles here: Turf is harder to digest than grass.

Separate concepts here, sonny. Stay in school kid...

Hey I didn't realize how many of you would take offense at a simple question.
I suppose you enjoyed watching the slip sliding away we got.
Now that you have all vented and defended grass over turf.....have any of you read the thread: How Fricked Up Is The Field?
There are people over there who don't seem to worship the grass field nearly as much as some on this thread.

Too poor for it. Can’t have country music rednecks on it for the super fest either

The guys complaining about the heat have a point.
No shite. Have you ever been in south Louisiana in early September? It’s not at all abnormal for the heat index to be in the 100’s, and that’s without a turf field.
quote:
Now as to the injuries is it your contention that the AD's and Administrations of schools with turf don't care about their athletes?
It’s different if you are in a dome, or in a part of the country where grass isn’t feasible. How many big time programs in the SEC use turf? How many use grass?
quote:
Does that also goes for pro teams that have turf? That's a strange argument.
When the Cardinals built their new stadium, they installed a system to roll the playing surface outside of the dome so the grass could grow, and roll it back in for games. I can assure you they didn’t do this because it was cheaper.

Getting really tired of these bandwagon fans coming around here to tell us how to be fans of LSU.

Does anyone have the scoop on the field they plan to install after the season is over? My guess is that it will have an amazing drainage system, that will basically suck the water out if needed.

so you thought Les was eating turf the whole time?

Cuz it’s hot as frick down here yo
We have enough $ to install field turf and some water cooling system underneath. However, the cooling system could cause condensation to build up on the turf and cause slippery conditions, but not moreso than rain.
I think a northern school has field turf with a heating system below to keep it clear in wintry conditions.

I’ve watched countless games played on turf and there are no noticeable increases of injuries or heat related fatigue.
Well that’s certainly scientific.

Oh how wonderful it would be if we had a purple and gold turf field like Boise . Not , natural grass is the best ask any athlete. Sometimes you have the elements to play through but that’s football . The grass will save so many ankles and knees . Just leave it alone and smile at beautiful stadium . The best in the country
