re: The problem with Omar

I love this return to tradition. Omar, bring the magic back! Crazy about Omar.

Interesting. If a player is falling backwards, catches the ball, heel touches but then lands on his butt out of bounds without touching a toe in bounds ... is that a catch?
But, as for Lacy, that is not a catch. Thanks for the rule reminder.

Never mind, just checked with ChatGPT ..
"In NCAA football, a catch is not awarded if any part of the receiver’s foot touches out of bounds before they establish control of the ball with both feet or another body part inbounds. If a receiver's heel lands inbounds but then their toes touch out of bounds before full possession and control are established, the pass is ruled incomplete.
The rules are based on establishing control of the ball with a legal catch stance. For a catch to count, the receiver must get at least one foot or body part down inbounds after gaining control of the ball without any subsequent contact with the boundary line."

Lacy's catch

Sorry if this has been answered already. And not that it really matters. But why wasn't this a catch? Does the heel not count? Perhaps there is some weird rule that I don't know about?

I’m just way too superstitious. This slight to Mike feels like bad karma. Let’s just stick with what we did for the pregame in 2022.

Crazy to think that $200M of this was for their track, Hayward Field. And another 230M on Matthew Knight Arena.

it's very interesting you say that.
I'm not the poster you were responding to, but I also played pickup ball in the Field House back in the 80s and played once against Joyce Walker. In fact, I'm a guard so I guarded her.
Now, I'll admit she was better than I expected, but she was an All-American and I was just a high school player, but she didn't get the better of me.
So your assertion that a current WBB player would embarrass someone in one-on-one, well, I guess that depends on the guy. If the guy was even a decent high school player, well, I'd put my money on the guy.
And by the way, that's not a shot at the women. It's just different - much like the boys high school team dominating the US Women's Soccer team.
Men are bigger, stronger, faster, and can jump much higher. Those are just facts.
I remember playing pickup in the Field House back then too .. not against Joyce but with Prop 48 Stanley Roberts. He was OK. I dunked on him (in my dreams). :)

I was at Auburn 88, Florida 97, and Bama 22.
88 was mostly hot and quiet up until the end, when all the stadium’s pent up energy finally erupted at once. And the noise continued in the tunnels as we exited the stadium.
97 and 22 seemed similar for game-long sustained noise. In 97, after a decade of misery, we were just desperate for a big win.
The beauty of 22, of course, is that it combined the 88 ending with the 97 sustained noise.
My 2 cents.

Neck before STTDB
Posted by geauxlobo on 11/7/22 at 11:38 pm
Does anyone have a good video of the stadium doing neck without (or with minimum) STTDB? Perhaps from back when the band first added it to their playlist? Of course, that assumes that STTDB was not always part of Neck.
Speaking of that, when did they first start playing it? I think I remember it being played at the 2005 or 2007 (3OT McFadden)Ark games.
I found a lame video from 2009 ULL game where the STTDB is muted, because the stands were empty.

I was in section 104. Many of us putt our arms around our neighbor’s shoulders, interlocking everyone together up and down the rows. Then we all just shut up, leaned in, and watched.
Followed by total insanity. Jumping around, hugging, kisses, and high fives for everyone.
I’m surprised nobody got hurt! How could all that craziness not result in a twisted ankle or torn MCL as you trip over the bleachers?! Haha

Yeah, I was a bore. I was an athlete too (track), so was either training or studying.
But there were some wild times in Broussard Hall. The parties often came to us!
The good news is that I learned liner algebra and how to build/program computers. That has been quite handy for the past 30 years.

Sports Illustrated was the bar next to Fred’s. That is in Tigerland. You used the term Tiger Town. That is what they used to call the area where the Chimes is now.
Ah, that's right. Tigerland.
I do remember going to Sports after the '88 Auburn game. That was pretty amazing. I believe Shaq an Stanly were there, towering above everyone.

Old Timer Question about nightlife in BR
Posted by geauxlobo on 10/28/22 at 10:54 am
I have rarely visited BR since I graduated in '93. But I'm returning for the Alabama game and bringing my college aged (undergraduate and graduate) kids and some of their friends.
They want to check out the nightlife on Thurs, Fri, or Sat. And I have no ideas. I'm guessing they can figure it out, but was hoping a young person could provide some ideas.
I will not be joining them.
When I was at LSU, I was too poor and too busy with engineering to go out much. Back then, a big 'party' for me was bowling in the Union or getting a sandwich at the gas station that is now the S&P on Nicholson. I vaguely remember a place called Sports Illustrated for dancing and Fred's was for the frats. From Google maps, it looks like Tigerland is about the same?
So looking for a recommendation on the best night and place.

Watching LSU in Singapore
Posted by geauxlobo on 9/27/22 at 5:03 pm
I’ll be in Singapore for the Grand Prix. Any chance there are any LSU watch parties in Singapore? Kickoff at 7 am on Sunday. Then the race starts at 8 pm. Will be a long and fun day.
