Why are so many Louisiana HS’s going to turf? Strange.

My DYB team played in the World Series in Ruston this past summer. Our first game was at 3:30 and a local TV station had a thermometer on the turf. 122 degrees.

Screw that.

We have enough $ to install field turf and some water cooling system underneath. However, the cooling system could cause condensation to build up on the turf and cause slippery conditions, but not moreso than rain.
yes, anytime you have cool on hot in a humid environment, natural or manufactured, you'll get condensation. But like you said, no more so than rain. I wouldn't see that as a barrier.

Not all 'turfs' are equal. True turf can be more slippery than grass. It's 'fibers' are pretty slick to start with and you can't dig in. That's how you get slip & slides. There's a reason you don't see those very often anymore. Most use the pelletized rubber now because the aggregate itself isn't as slick when wet and you can dig in somewhat. Still hard as hell, more abrasive (which is more 'nuisance' than 'injury'), and even hotter than the old style. Those things definitely absorb more sunlight and actually inhibit evaporation (they've been using larger aggregate on the surface of reservoirs in drought prone regions out west).

At the end of the day they're all on the same field. When you're talking speed, they are all affected equally. If a WR is slowed by 0.3, so is the DB. Cuts it is up to the player; plant harder, stay more vertical. Then the WRs have an advantage. So the premise of the OP's that turf favors our new style offense is wrong anyway.

And then you have the mudders... those whose style favors such conditions. You saw one Saturday by the name of Clyde. Great balance, jump cut instead of plant cut, and low center of gravity. Maybe if we were on turf the DL could dig in more and stymie the OL and CEH doesn't get to second level at all. Maybe, if he gets to 2nd level, on artificial turf, those LBs are able to move laterally better and his 15 yd gains are only 5.

The idea that the field ONLY hurts LSU, or an offense like ours is just preposterous. Talent is talent; just like your coordinators have to adjust, so do players in their style and cleat length.

This hasn't been the case in 20 years. Field Turf has a very nice "give" to it now and is more consistent than grass.

Shhhhhh.

Just let these guys keep talking about stuff they have no idea whatsoever about.

This is correct. Just like football, it's all about the head guy and his knowledge/experience in all aspects of cultivating football turf.

The great looking fields that look good all season, (And are unaffected by precipitation) are maintained by experienced professionals that know what they're doing.

LSU doesn't have one of those on the staff right now. There is no "Turf Saban" there currently. It's just a collection of guys that know how to start a lawn mower and sprinkle fertilizer on the grass. There's not one big "Grass Guru" on the staff to make sure everything is done properly.

The talented "Grass Guru" that used to be in charge of the turf left LSU several years ago and was not replaced by someone of equal knowledge. Typical Joe Alleva in action. He just moved everybody up. He didn't go out and recruit an experienced Turf Professional that knows everything to do in football turf management. (That includes what to do the week/days before a big game when it starts to rain)

Scott needs to go out and make a big hire here. Hire the Clemson Grass Guru. That field looks immaculate All season! (Or the Tennessee guy or any other Professional Turf Manager with proven experience)

What would LSU cheerleaders graze on during halftime if you had fake grass ? It would be cruel to tease them like that.

Grass is so much better. But for Christ sake, cover it when a shite ton of rain is expected the day before a game. No excuse for not covering the field. This rain was forecasted for days beforehand.

I’ve always liked that blue turf in Boise. We should do something like that. Maybe purple.

BAMA has natural turf too. If Saban thought fake grass was better for his teams to play on, you can bet your arse he’d have it installed. Same goes for Coach O.
