The auto insurance rates here are a fricking crime. People always talk about lowering the rates, but it's mostly caused by our sue-happy populace.
I’ve always heard it was because we have so many uninsured motorists
But I think that’s crap. I think they charge what they can get away with and our politicians let them.

Saw this the other day. Some interesting stuff on outmigration here to consider. Thousands of people are leaving Louisiana because of the lawsuit-happy culture here.

This!! Full disclosure - I'm a workers' compensation defense attorney with a very active practice. It has probably ten years since I last had a claimant with a college degree, and most of the claimant's suing are making less than $10 an hour.

Woman hit me while on her phone, got out of her car without ending her call, and yelled at me, "Ah'm gunna' OWN you!"

I’d have to call bullshite on this. I work at a plant with a lot of Yankees from the Northeast because my company closed their plants. They are the biggest bunch of entitled, lazy pricks who think they are the smartest people in the room.

I think it's a combination of our over litigious society in the state, the high percentage of uninsured, and people drive like nutjobs tailgating each other.
I-12, especially in St. Tammany, is a death trap but that doesn't stop the Xanax riddled soccer mom from Covington from riding my bumper the whole way and cutting off two lanes of traffic on 190. All because she needs to get Kaighleigh to school because she slept late after her box wine bender the night before.

I mean the insurance company is paying up not even that person unless you have to sue them personally which is kinda rare. And you damn right if some arse head rear ends me bc he’s looking at gameplay videos on YouTube instead of watching the road and makes me late to pickup basketball I’m getting paid from somebody.

The absolute worst aspect of the state, and yes I said worst, is the fact everyone has the mindset of “I can’t make money myself, so I’ll take yours.” Its worse than roads, politicians, crime, culcha, taxes, etc. Its disgusting really.
On the flip side, some of the most wealthy, successful people are also very sue happy. Us middle class working drones are all victims.
I do home inspections, I'm well aware of where lawsuits come from in this business, and it's almost always homes in the $750k+ range, is usually ungrounded, and just revolves around someone having buyers remorse.

Because it’s so incredibly easy to atleast get 15-20,000.
Now, yes, your lawyer will get half but ok, that’s still $500-10,000 of easy easy money that you probably didn’t even go to court to get

I think that law was changed though.

I have tried to promote existing chemical manufacturing sites which were shuttered to clients out of state for decades. The major petrochemical companies already had full floors of legal staff and large cash flow, so not that big an issue. To a person, every company president or owner has told me HELL after they love what is there and access to barge, truck and/or railroad transport and price but when I tell them were. Stonewall is thrown up.
It is two things, legal climate and local politicians constantly looking for hand outs not to make trouble. Plaquemines Parish being worst of all.
So the ghost of Huey P. Long and in Plaquemines/St. Bernard Parishes its Leander Perez. Major companies were willing to let Perez go in dry because there was so damned much oil and gas there. Heck Perez got money from LBJ to put in municipal water systems for small black communities and they were all put in at citrus orchards instead.

Clients have put in plants in Mississippi, Arkansas and Texas for twice the money just not to have to deal with Louisiana b.s.

Most of the claims against us are bs. Even dumbass employees trying to fake injuries.
I have no doubt people need this. But when some bitch, lawyer or other lowlife, has several other claims against other companies, maybe those dumbasses are just accident prone. And people shouldn't be liable for these people.
You trip over a curb and you can sue someone, for being fricking clumsy. You might not win, but it cost whoever you sued time and money.

People dislike personal injury attorneys, not because they don't serve a purpose in society, but because the overwhelming BULK of their work is essentially fraudulent.
Nobody is giving insurance companies a pass or saying that there aren't situations where attorneys are needed to look out for the people. But give us a fricking break. It's not those cases that keep the lights on over at Brian Caubarraux' gigantic obnoxious building by the Alexandria traffic circle, an area known for basically a fender bender a day.
They are hyenas. There are too many of them. They do more harm to the state than they do good, and I anxiously await change that makes it more difficult for them to make a living taking advantage of poor people at the expense of the truly productive in society. They look out for each other. A disproportionate number of public officials are former attorneys. They all work together to pass laws that keep the money flowing. frick 'em.

Yeah right, In addition, the rates are NOT because of a large number of uninsured. That is not that common.
Look, I’m not necessarily defending lawyers (although they really are not the biggest component of the overall problem). I’m just saying that if stronger victim rights laws were to be passed, cracking down on the way insurance companies handle the victim of a car accident, we’d see a dramatic decrease in the number of attorney-represented claims. People get fed up and tired of dealing with the claims process and decide to turn it over to attorneys all the time. That’s when their minor injuries turn into big payouts.
Insurers would be smart to be a tad more open to making the victim happy rather than treat them like lying pieces of shite.
Change the way insurers handle victims from the start and we’d see lawsuits drop.

Lawyers in this state have made it to where even the smallest of wrecks is a pay day.
