I just started hiking alone once a week after work. Instead of hitting the gym for 1-2 hrs after work some days I go for a hike. Nothing big just 3-7 miles on trails at state parks. I tell my wife where I am going and what time I will be back. I really enjoy the solitude. I should have been doing this years ago. It is great.

I have never camped alone and probably won’t at this stage in my life. I have seen solo tent campers out before and I probably would have done this in my younger years when I was single.

I go all the time with my dog, so not sure if you would consider that "alone" but yeah, it's the way to do it. I pack a ruck with everything I need and just disappear for a bit. It's good for the soul.

I've done some solo backpacking in my time when I was much, much younger. It's a great way to recenter yourself to what's important in the world. Lots of time to think about things.

I used to camp alone when I was working in Nevada. 10 days on 4 days off so if I felt like staying close and saving money I would just go set up on some blm land. I had my phone and 7 gallons of water and slept with my gun next to me.

I have done national parks alone plenty but that doesn't feel the same since you are in occupied campgrounds.

I did a small stretch of the Appalachian trail back in my early 20s when I was still entering the spirit world a lot. For the most part I was camping around other folks who were also doing the trail. It was about 1.5 weeks worth. I tried to carry a bunch of MREs leftover from Hurricane Rita to avoid buying food since I was broke and just about starved. Good times.

I've done some solo hiking and hunting other than that on weekends and have always enjoyed it. It's a good way to reset. With everything in my life seeming to move way too fast it is comforting to go to a place that change over the past 15 years is nearly imperceptible.

I've camped quite a bit alone before. To be honest I'm not crazy about it. Just gets boring real fast. If I slip and bust my arse in the mud there is no one there to laugh with me. I just have a wet muddy butt and no comedic relief.

I like going to walks alone though, but thats a few hours at a time at the most.

Talk about scary as shite. One partner is best IMO.

It's the silence. Maybe some wind blowing through the trees or a squirrel, but the lack of man made noise is truly glorious. We don't realize how much noise pollution we encounter in our everyday lives and that includes people who talk too damn much.

When I go on road trips on my motorcycle I've been known to camp out at the rallies I attend and have on several occasions just pulled off the road a good bit and caught a few hours of sleep, especially if riding into the night.

Nothing like laying out in a sleeping bag in the middle of nowhere and looking up at the night sky with no light pollution like you get living in a city.

Planning a kayak camp trip soon to matagorda beach. Probably be solo on this one. I plan on camping on a small island in the bay

I've done it, it's nice sometimes. Doesn't usually work out that way as most people I know enjoy the same things so I don't end up alone.

Done it many times paddle/camping on the following rivers:

Congaree
Catawba
Wateree

Carry and you’re fine. My biggest fear is that the dam releases will submerge my island/bank that I’m camping on.
Also coyotes.

My canoe floated away. Lucky it caught a rock garden 200 yards downstream.

It’s actually pretty fun camping alone. Take comfort in these sounds you hear.

Grew up in the NELA. Ran trails and logging roads where I played, and hunted, as a kid, anytime I was home during college, and into my 30's.

Never have camped by myself.

All the time. Few trips a year all over the country. Last time I heard a moose crashing through the woods, but being with someone else wouldn’t have helped much.

It’s refreshing. Like someone said. Hike far, sleep good.

:raises hand: I get no greater peace than being in the woods or on the water by myself.

I enjoy it. Just don't get to do it much anymore living in the Nola area as there aren't many good places within a reasonable drive or the weather doesn't work for it.

My favorite two solo trips was a two night canoe camp on the black creek and a two night stay at Fort Pickens in west pensacoula beach.

The canoe trip was very much a solitude trip as I saw maybe 10 other people over the two days. Thanks to this thread, I'm ready to do it again.

I solo hike a lot. It's an incredible way to find peace, get introspective and connect with nature. Prefer it to hiking with others

Like others have said, camping alone is (at least to me) one of the things that keeps me sane. I don’t do it a lot, but 5-6 times a year sleeping in the woods alone with nothing but a fire and no one to talk to is the most relaxing thing I can do.

I have a wife and 4 children, a stressful job, more bills than money, and not that good looking (I make up for it with wit), and sleeping in the woods alone makes me feel like a king.
